need some advice about my laptop

i brought a laptop (Acer Aspire 1511LMi) from ebuyer just over a year ago. and since i recieved it, its been nothing but trouble. its been back 5 times for repairs

1st time:
USB, TFT, DVD
2nd time
USB, DVD ( replace in previous repair with CD-RW),battery(not holding charge)
3rd time
USB, Battery replaced agen
4th time
Speakers not working when received back from previous reapir and case not put together properly
5th time
Usb, Keyboard

ive had my warranty extended till 10th of november but its been at the repair center for ever a month now and i think its unacceptable. wat can i do is there any way i can get money back or something? any advice will help

Don't expect the frontline telephone staff to understand this, speak to a manager and if that doesn't sort it then get onto Trading Standards with a well documented case (make everyone's life easier, have all the documents to hand and write down a timeline of events)

Are they sending it back to Acer or are eBuyer doing the repairs 'in-house' ?

It will go back to Acer (or authorised repairer) eventually regardless of who takes it back for repair

I repair laptops for a living and I would just ask them to fit a brand new motherboard as opposed to repairing the board. New board pretty much = new laptop

Failing that then I would refuse the item and ask for my money back

each time its goine back fro usb it has had new mobo fitted.!!! but the problem persists.

Then I would say the problem isnt the laptop ! More likely whatever USB device your plugging into it is either A) faulty or B) drawing too much power from the machine

If they've genuinely fitted a new board each time then you should look at other possible causes of faults or incompatabilities

What is the actual problem with the USB ports ?
Failure to detect devices or ...... ?
What is the device your trying to connect ?

the ports work fine for about a week then one by one die and dont detect anything or connect and disconnect to the device. as for wat devices i have use 5 mice, 3 webcams, 2 external hard drives, numerous mp3 players and bluetooth dongles. all of which dont work in a port when it dies

i'll send it back and ask for replacement

From what you have said, it has always had a USB fault, i used to work part time for a well known company who sold computers and liked the colour purple ;)


The offical line internaly for there unit swaps would be three repairs for the same fault, like others have sugested i would get down your local citizens advice and give them the story.

My Acer laptop has been back for repairs after it broke (it wouldnt turn on). Acer replaced the motherboard and everything is great with it now (touch wood:))

I was wondering Riot - you say a new board=a new laptop. To what extent do you mean? Do they replace the cpu and graphics card as well or do they just take everything out and put components into the new motherboard. (I have mobility 9700 and 2ghz pentium m if that makes any difference)

It depends on the model of the laptop. Some have the CPU soldered to the board others are removable

So if it was soldered to the board you would get a new motherboard, CPU & graphics card

If the CPU was removable you would only get a new motherboard and graphics card, they would re-use your old CPU.


The only exception to the above is if you have a fancy laptop where the graphics card is a seperate entity from the mainboard but this is quite rare in laptops....
