reccomend me some digital 5.1 headphones please

Does anyone know of any decent digital 5.1 headphones which are out atm? My budget is around 100 pounds but they HAVE to be digital (I'm an audiophile!) As i've yet to find any on my google adventures.

I honestly havent seen any digital headphones ever. But I have found the Medusa 5.1 headset the best by a long way and is very cheap, £35!

there are NO good ones! I have tried the medusa and the zalman, there are some others but they all suck! Seriously, I am just being honest here and I know some will come in here and say that I am wrong but I have to warn you they all are crap. for that price you can pick up some cans or shure buds that will sound much better! And no, you dont need 5.1 to hear where there coming from, a good can set will be verey distinctive in positional awareness...

I'll tell you the dude above hasn't a clue and the MedUSA headphones are very good even if you end up using them as 2.1 headphones (they have a bass speaker too). There are huge threads on thedvdforums and avforums aswell as many many reviews around the web.

Get a decent 3D virtualiser on your soundcard (apparently the new X-Fi does that very well) if you don't have it already, and get some decent conventional headphones. After all, you only have two ears, why spend lots on 6 different drivers? (I know this isn't true for certainly listening with speakers, but given the complete stereo separation of a pair of cans it's reasonable).

Digital headphones are a slightly odd idea, as far as I can tell, given that the final signal is analogue, so you'll need a DAC in the headphones, where it's likely to be small and cheap, rather than something better on board a soundcard/amp. If you're going to be listening to a soundcard you might want a decent digital headphone amp instead and then good analogue headphones.

I'd suggest some Sennheiser HD595s which you can pick up for around the £100 mark if you look hard (they RRP at £150, but froogle says otherwise), but if you're spending that much you might want to go to a hi-fi shop and cheekily listen to a few different ones.

www.dansdata.com does some pretty in-depth, no nonsense reviews of headphones. However, if you're a proper "audiophile" you might not like what he has to say.

Well, He said "I'm an audiophile!" and since he said that he wont like any 5.1's... So walibe, thats why we are recomending him higher quality cans. Any of the 500 series will blow them medusas away by 10x over

I own both the medusa and the zalmans. The zalmans suck, so i bought medusas when they broke. Was pleased with medusa's for quite some time but i have got over the 5.1 novelty and want some quality headphones for bass and listening to music. The medusa's give a really distorted sound with your listening to a song with loads of bass and it isn't as crisp as other cans. Im thinking about ordering a decent pair of sennheiser HD555's.
I really would stay clear of the 5.1 headphone scene if you can help it mate.

I had a set of Gainward 5.1's - which where quite good - but you don't really hear the effect on mp3s.... although the X-Fi should address a lot of that.
