Prices dont generaly dtop in January, bit later on in the year.
Jan is still a "buying" time of the year - ie. they can shift stock without having to reduce it.

They may drop in price in January, but only back DOWN to the original price before the Christmas rush, which caused everything to go up. The odd place may have a sale on such like PCWorld where they make big things of such events, but thats about it.

Yeah, but that just makes them 25% more expensive than online retailers compared to their normal 50%, so that dont really count

Not if you order online and pick up in store. Do you not remeber their incredible price BFG 6800gt for well over 8 months @ £199 when everywhere else was well over the 250 mark.
Sometimes they have greats offers and they are more inclcined than anyone to offer them around January store due to them being so big and national with plenty of press coverage. Like you say some things can be exspensive but sometimes they shine.
