    S939 Opterons in Stock

Been pretty difficult to see Opterons in stock recently (well, the S939 142, 144 and 146es, anyway). At least, in stock and at a decent price.

I was watching them closely, hoping to maybe pick one up in January. But then AMD stopped producing S939 Opterons, and I realised (after a few bottles of wine) that now was the time to act!

But nowhere has them in stock... and might never have them again?

Then I found RL Supplies! Never heard of them before, but the wine told me that it didn't matter.

    http://www.rlsupplies.co.uk/Products...entID=141&MID=

I had only been considering a 144 for a little over £100, but I decided to get a £129 (bottom line) 146 at 2.0GHz. Now I just need a S939 motherboard, and PCI-Express graphics card.

    Darn.

15 Opteron 144s and 21 Opteron 146es in stock at the time of posting. Bon chance!

There does seem to be a huge rush on them since my post! Stock seemed constant during the two days it took between my ordering their, and my posting here (had been a busy couple of days for me).

Is the 144 much worse, though? It's cheaper, and while rated 200MHz lower out of the box, shouldn't it also O/C like a mad thing? At that price, even hitting 2.4 or 2.5GHz would make it a tremendous value-for-money S939 chip!

Edit: Gah, there's already a thread about this!

Depends on the board, mine is nice and happy at 334htt. I can get into windows at 345htt and post at 360 but I think its temp and voltage limited not board limited. Admittedly 9x does make working out ram speeds and dividers frustrating but its nothing that a bit of hard work doesn't fix

yeah of course mate but some peeps still have baords that wont go above 300 or even 280 for example. thats what im meaning of course the dfis we have mean that mutli doesnt matter.then you have the other point of tight timings. some 2gb pairs dont run well on dividers if you want tighter timings so again a 10x multi minum is best.

but yes of course for the price the 144 opties are a damned steal.

I've been with DFI for a while so I forget about boards not making it so high. My lanparty Ultra-B would let me reach 265 on nf2 and I gather than some nf4 boards can't even get there...

To be fair even at 250 that gets you a sandy 3700+ and 267 it equals an sd 4000+ for £120.

Glad I got mine for £100 a few weeks ago

Should really get round to selling my venice now....

yeah but now its hard to get any reasonable money from a 512kb cached cpu such as a venice.

im still have with my x2 4800 i picked up 2nd hand for £300 with both cores at 2.95GHz but got both a 146 and 148 coming my way to be tested then sold depending on what they can do. i just love the fun of overclocking. and the optys are full of fun indeed.
