    gfx cards

I currently have gainward ti4200 gfx AGP and I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card and was wondering is a nvidia 6600 AGP good midrange card to have. I do play games now and again and watch dvd on PC. My budget is around 130 ish.

To be henest, with that sort of budget you could easily get a second hand 6800GT which would be a much better buy over a new AGP card, they are getting pretty hard to get hold of at the moment.
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

I would not be spending huge amounts of cash on AGP, from a quick look around you can pick up an AGP 6600GT for £93, bit more than I would spend,

    ==edit==

    Albatron GeForce 6600GT 128M DDR3 AGP, DVI, VGA,TV-OUT Mfr #: AGP6600GT £93

    Leadtek Winfast Geforce 6600GT 128MB Ddr3 AGP Dvi-i Tv-out Retail £90

I would take a punt on the albatron

I had a 6600GT in my main machine until about 6 weeks ago and it did well, then I found the 6800GT as in my system. What are the rest of your spec? A 6600GT from ti4200 was my upgrade and it made a huge difference (at the time I was running an athlon xp 2800 with 1 Gb of memory). This 6800GT has not made such a great improvement but it has allowed high res.

try and hunt down a 6800LE, if they unlock they kick the 6600gt's butt.

Noooo, that's the 6800 Vanilla (as in, 'just' 6800). And yeah, they can rock.

The 6800LE is only 8-pipe, I think? 6800 is 12, and quite a few unlock to 16 through Rivatuner.

My system is running amd xp 3200 with 512ddr ram, 420w psu and is few yrs old so PCI-E out of question. Current card from Gainward. I'm looking for something that will run things well for 12 months or so. Wouldn't call myself a demanding user so overclocking etc isn't important. 130 ish is max price.. i'd like to pay 100 tops ideally.

Any of the cards should be fine however you might be best going with this one:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=219245

    *Current stock is by XFX*

As this is also dual dvi but it will come with a dual dvi to dsub connector

The 6800LE can usually unlock to 12 pipes and be slightly faster than a 6600GT or sometimes can unlock to 16 pipes and be almost as fast as a 6800GT (but not as fast, as the RAM's a fair bit slower)

That said, these days the price differential between a 6800LE and a 6800 can't be too much and you're probably best off guaranteeing at least 12 pixel pipelines.

For reference, I recently picked up an ATI X800Pro pre-unlocked to 16 pipelines and overclockable to almost X800XT-PE for £110 delivered in the Hexus For Sale/For Trade forum. This will usually beat a 6800GT and sometimes a 6800Ultra, especially with AA/AF applied.

G800GT AGPs can run happily at Ultra speeds as well... well mine (XFX dual dvi) does.

Nobody has suggested a x800 GT or x800 GTO, on AGP for £130 you'll do well to beat them.
