    Windows XP

ive just bought my new pc (im building it) and ive forgotten a vital component, the operating system. We have lots of xp pro cd's lying around at work, the only problem is the licenses have all been used. Any ideas? i could buy xp home from scan for 60 odd quid? is there benefit from xp pro over xp pro for gaming/general use ?

edit: telling me to install Free BSD does not constitute useful advice !!!

nah mate, ive been using XP home for 2 years now, and its never really made any difference over my other rig, running XP Pro. I'd say just buy an XP home, the oem version and its only like 55 squids

Actually, the latest rumour doing the rounds is that Server 2003 R2 is best for screaming SuperPi performance...

Bloke at the computer fair at the National Motorcycle Museum does them. I think the trader is from Derby. Bought XP Pro from him.

I think you might be able to buy a licence direct from Microsoft? Then you could use an XP pro disc from work or something. Could turn out cheaper..

Vista public Beta 2 isn't a bad o/s all in all, but remember it's a BETA, not a full release, so it's going to have a few bugs & glitches. Still, I've used it a lot & combined with Office Beta wich was given away with PC pro revently it makes a usable working environment.
