Macbook pro is a similar price if you get get edu or student discount If the mac bit scares you just install windows...

Or look at Dell - the XPS M1710 looks like it should do you nicely (search for XPS M1710 on the dell site)

If you can push your budget a bit higher I'd go for this: Evesham Nemesis

    REVIEW

Those twin 7900's will make any game scream along for a good few years to come.

    From the review:

Remarkably, though, there’s also a pair of Nvidia 7900 GS graphics cards inside, making this as much of a gaming thoroughbred as any laptop we’ve seen.

You have a few options - you can either totally wipe OSX (the 'mac crap' as you call it) and just have windows on it, or by far the best choice is to dual boot with OSX and windows. This is the easiest way to do it, and if you set your disks to have a small OSX partition and the majority to XP you shouldn't notice the space defecit really.

Yes, windows works almost 100% - the only issues are that the built in iSight does not work yet, and that you currently cannot right click with the trackpad (ie no 2 finger right click), but this isn't a big problem as you can either use an external mouse or use the right apple key to right click. Games, sound, graphics etc all work. These two problems will be fixed soon enough though as apple is developing drivers to solve both issues.

It's worth keeping OSX just to try it out - its a great OS to use, I find myself only using windows XP for games/apps that I can't yet run on my macbook - the number of which is getting less day by day. Of course when parallels is released as a final version, you should be able to just run in OSX all the time - assuming that they fulfill their promise of full gaming/graphics support with the virtualisation software...that will be ace
