    Mesh vs Scan

First post so please be gentle.

Got a budget of around £1400 and am torn between the Mesh Elite fire 1950 (without the monitor and speakers) and using the Scan 3XS Core™2 Duo-OC (PCW) as a base. The main use will be gaming and films.

If i go the Scan route then i will need to use a 7600 gt xxx but the pay back is a 74gb Raptor, two 250gbs spin-points, Corsair memory and Pioneer drive.

If i go Mesh i get the 6700 processor and the 1950 ati card, but Matrox hdd and ocz memory (i will upgrade the case to the coolermaster option)

So do i go Scan for the better components ( please tell me if i am wrong) and upgrade the graphics card jan-feb next year.

Or go Mesh now for the better performance and gaming power, and live with the lower grade components, or again am i wrong in my old experience of Matrox drives?

My heart says Scan for the long term benefits, but the wallet (misses) says Mesh

    Any input will be appreciated

maxtor drives from my personal experience are dire. i've had 2 300 gig drives of theirs fail within a year.

    ATI drivers suck.

Personally i'd go with scan, just dont expect them to delivery it on time.

Not attempting to go off topic, but what do you base this on?

All of the parts (admittedly, not computers) that I have ordered have been on time - and the free delivery is a definate bonus.

With orders placed via the free carriage option, only one order has not met - or beaten - it's estimated despatch date on your account.

Anyway - getting back on topic.. lead date for systems is currently 8-10 days.

I'd get neither system as your compromising no matter which way you turn.

you mean 2 out of the 3 orders, but yeh still get the scan if you cannot be bothered building your own.

p.s i just hate the way you hold the entire order up just because i ordered ordered like 5 mouse skate packets and and you had like 4 or something. either way it was a while ago and i dont really care just annoyed me loads at the time.

Not to be pedantic - Matrox are Graphics Card Manufacturers, Maxtor are hard disk manufactures (who have recently been taken over by Seagate iirc)

If you can use a screw-driver and check that 2 connectors will join without mashing the pins because they are different sizes/shapes, then you can build your own PC.

It really is VERY VERY simple The most fiddly part has even been resolved on the newer Asus boards with their Q-Connector which lets you attach the power LED, power switch, HDD-LED etc cables to a small block and then the block plugs onto the motherboard.

Yup, its not that hard, and theres always a forum full of people to answer questions if/when they arise

However, if you really aren't confident enough, then Scan's option would get my vote.

Had looked at the Novatech bundles, upgraded graphics cards and DVD drives in the past.

What about the O/S installs and bios settings?

I've not had any personal experience of scan system building. They are very good for components and their support seems top notch especially if you go through the Hexus forums.

Mesh I've had second hand experience of 4-5 years ago, they were very good then for complete systems. My mate did have a hardware failure within warrenty and it was sorted out ok, if a little slowly.

Er.. so that doesn't help much sorry! I think my first preference for a system build would still be Mesh for cost reasons, but it's only a very slight preference. For upgrades/replacement parts I'd go with Scan every time.
