For me it all started with the ZX81 - Mazogs anyone?
I used to buy every magazine to do with Sinclair and came within a whisker of buying a QL!

Man I remember playing all of those games , bought back memories , is there a way that i can play them today , atic atac mainly , I nearly clocked attic attac got 97% in that game , had 3 doors left to open .
Not Attic Attac (legally) as "Ultimate" (more recently "Rare") have denied permission for them to be downloaded.
As they are now technically part of Microsoft - they may not wish to do this either
(BTW: I could complete Attic Attac in about 6 mins 26 seconds most times )

I remember seeing TrapDoor and almost peeing my pants, though I did own a Commodore 16 at the time (yes that's right SIXTEEN).
P.S. Stupid newbie question - I take it you've all heard of the GP32/GP2X?
P.P.S. GHOST-BUSTERS!!!!

C16 - some nice hardware, but should have concentrated on the C65 instead
GP2X - Yep.. tempted... tempted myself
GHOST-BUSTERS - "He slimed me... " (have to admit the music and sound was better on the C64 )
Of course the C64 was the Daddy - Once I saw The Last Ninja and heard the Level 1 music I knew what I wanted for xmas - still got those tunes and a load of others in SID format (but that's for another topic).
As for Attic Attac, IMO you should forget the legality and dive in. Don't get me wrong, I'm completely against Software Piracy, but these games should be PD by now, or downloadable for pennies - Hell they're far too fringe to have any commercial value. Not making them available is like locking away the Mona Lisa and saying no-one can look at the painting itself or any copies of it (a bit OTT I'll grant you, but you get the idea).
And finally, the GP2X - Damn worth it IMO for MAMEGP2X alone, but when the PSP finally gets a decent version, could be an ebay job
A lot of the developers are actually happy that these systems and games can be used / played by emulation now. Keeps them alive in a way.
What I tend to do is look in places like HMV or online suppliers for the retro emulators for sale that have games with them. This way you are legally paying for the old games and helping keep them alive to this day.
Ferral: Ultimate/Rare (now under the Microsoft label) always had an issue with their games being available for download.
