Not heard of any of those, and why are they all "made famous by..."? Is it because its not the original?

None of them are from the original bands. They're all cover versions by people who sound like them. Although some of the lesser known bands will give their permission to use their own tracks.

I thought the reason they had to have covers was because they needed to separate the guitar track from the rest of the song so they could put in the comedy twinks when you mess up. I think they got the lesser known bands you have in the bonus ones to perform their songs.

I heard for Rock Band and another guitar hero that they're actually trying to get the artists to record them this time.

So what you guys are saying is that a song like "Synchronicity II (as made famous by Police)", even though it's an original, will be a cover in the game for copyright stuff to make it cheaper to make the game?

I think it's more to do with the fact they need to separate the guitar track from all the other instruments so they can cleanly cut out the guitar sounds when you screw up. In GH3 they've actually managed to either get copies of the recording tapes from some of the bands, or they've managed to get the funding to get them to record the songs themselves.

Should mean GH3 will be much better quality than GH1 and 2, since some of the covers were awfully done.
