    Review :: Football Manager 2008 - PC

Why is Football Manager one of the UK's best loved franchises? Don’t they just involve shuffling through dozens of spreadsheets and reams of text and then simply watching a graphically feeble simulation of the beautiful game? Let's take a look at the latest iteration...

I've been playing this quite a bit over that last couple of days and its ridiculously hard. It's not helped by the fact that your players don't actually tackle....

Hmm, I'm about half way through the season and top of the league with Walsall (Div 1) - thanks to new signing Marcus Stewart.

Are you setting all the opponent tactics (man-marking and how hard you want to tackle etc?)

Hard tackling makes no difference, as does closing down. I'm pretty sure its a bug of somesort. I've played every FM/CM since CM2.

Great game though I'm still addicted. Just having to adjust my tactics to compensate from the lack of tackling from my defenders. Also, anyone noticed the vast amount of dissallowed goals?

Now you mention it, I've seen a fair few disallowed goals and quite a few high scoring matches 7-0, 5-5, 5-4.

Re: Review :: Football Manager 2008 - PC

    I like it

I'm playing as Leicester City, and i've got a few Premiership Standard players (according to my assistant manager)

Dominated the Pre-Season friendlies (conceded one goal overall i think, while we scored around 10-15)

Now that the actually season has come along, we're not doing so well.

I also have the problem of defenders not being willing to tackle, and i also have a goalkeeper who doesn't like to save shots! He's been transferred though

Re: Review :: Football Manager 2008 - PC

Really hard, with team tackling on hard and closing down on full sometimes players seem very reluctant to tackle!
Not played FM really, i did a little on 06 but went as sunderland and won a league cup match on penalties and then when i went to news it said sunderland dumped out of cup? so i binned it
Hope this ones better, playing with 3 at the back and bought Samual from Inter and still struggling at the back.

I was losing pretty bad with a 4-4-2 formation. I switched it 4-5-1 and now can't stop scoring.

Re: Review :: Football Manager 2008 - PC

this game is realy hard. i am yet to win a single game and im still on the pre season friendlies. i am struggling to beat unknown teams. i better get my act together before the season kicks off because my first opponent is chelsea!

im arsenal btw playing a 442 and am about to try 433. i have ade and eduardo both injured too so that doesnt help either but still i should beat these minor teams

Re: Review :: Football Manager 2008 - PC

I have been told by 2 guys at work that the players respond better to you after you've been manager a while. So it should get easier the longer you stick it out.
I havn't seen it myself, have struggled where i shouldn't.
Managed to get Van der vaart for 12.5 mil though

Would be interested in what you guys think are good formations and tactics, i.e. man marking or zonal?
Playing 5-3-2 attacking with man marking, limited success but still early in the season.
