Re: PSP system software update version 3.90 announced

Anyone know where I can actually get the headset and remote control required to use this on the PSP Lite, I have a Fat PSP remote but that isn't compatible and can't find the headset, or remote control (at least not official ones) for sale anywhere in the UK.

After a quick google ... Amazon.co.uk: Used and New: ONLINE - Sony PSP Headset/Earphone with Remote Control

Oops you're right, sorry. Seems a bit it though that they release a new feature without adequate hardware

Tbh I don't think that other one was an official one anyway, and I'd rather official, I know the official one exists and I saw it when i originally bought my PSP Lite but seems to have disappear from existence now, they are on the US amazon site (Amazon.com: PSP Headset: Video Games and Amazon.com: PSP 2000 Headphones w/Remote Control: Video Games but UK wise I can't see anything.

Well I'm just going to wait and see what happens, need to wait for the 3.90 M33 to be released (hopefully) as I don't really want to lose my homebrew capabilities for Skype, even if Skype would be useful.

Thanks for trying though paul, you could have easily come across something I missed.

Re: PSP system software update version 3.90 announced

Bravo Sony split PSP users between 'fat' and 'lite'. All those early adopters (like me) who have had sod all decent games to play on it (sounds familiar) are now told we cant use the new features. God of war is going to be the only thing thats going to make be brush the layers of dust off of it.

I'm a 'fat' psp user and not to bothered by skype but bothered that they are bringing out different/extra/better features within the firmwares and as spazman put splitting us.
Although i do think there are some good games, gta stories, metal gear portable ops, and i've just finished silent hill origins which was really good, but i mainly play psp with a few of us ad-hoc gta and portable ops especially is real good fun in deathmatch.

I'm waiting for the 3.90 custom firmware before upgrading, considering its impossible to get the required hardware anyway at the moment it seems rather irrelevant to upgrade (the main reason I'm interested in Skype is due to my existing SkypePro subscription (unlimited calls to UK landlines) so would be better to be able to use PSP than my PC.

This is the first thing they've dropped the PSP-Fat support for (AFAIK...) and I can't imagine them doing it for many things as it will further enrage people, and ruin the market for 2nd hand PSPs (Fat ones anyway).

I was an early adopter (PSP-Fat on release day) but also picked up the Slim on the day after release and IMHO it is much better, use it so much more than my old fat, didn't cost me that much (with vouchers, points, and a special offer which I haven't seen as good as yet).

If Sony do start to exclude the Fat from things though it will start to worry me (and others I imagine) who have a Slim as what will happen when they bring out the PSP Slimmer, will they just gradually drop support for things on that as well, if they do I personally think it would be a VERY bad move, and probably prevent many people from getting a PSP if they just keep replacing it with a slightly better model.

Keep in mind around the end of the month ALL PSP users in the UK (I think its only UK as its been created with BT) will get Go!Communicate, which sounds like an MSN Messenger style program for PSP.

That was a new addition in 3.80, apparently sony are going to be coming out with an "SDK" of sorts for the radio so you can customise it to your own desire, but I haven't heard anything about that in a while.

I haven't got around to trying a custom firmware yet. Are there any real benefits to using one? I guess I'll have to do some R&D

Re: PSP system software update version 3.90 announced

one of the main reasons is the video resolution limit. sony wants us to buy umds to watch the movies at full resolution even if we already OWN them on DVD. other little apps. theres a application that lets you stream your files to your psp from your pc which is neat. theres loads of other fun stuff to try with apps that you can get. Mostly customization I guess.
