Considering you can get a 8800gt with after market cooler for around 140 this seems like a bad deal.
I don't know about filling the price point between 8600GTS and 8800GT as it seems to be in direct competition with the 8800GT (£140 -150) - maybe the price point they were aiming at is for US consumers!!
maybe it's just me (okay it probably is just me), but I find it annoying that they have named if 9600 where it should be 8700 (as mentioned). Calling it 9600 seems to suggest it's a built on a whole new 'class' of chip rather than a revision of the existing '8000' series...
btw - seems to be a few reference to ATI in the review. shouldn't that be AMD? I miss the red canadian giant too, but bringing up the ATY stockticker on my screens just shows 'Acquired'....
I agree. I can only think that the reason it's called 9xxx is so they can charge so damn much for it! As other's have stated, it's a pretty poor deal at the currently listed prices - 8800GT is only £10 more.
I also can't understand why Hexus tested it against a 256MB 8800GT? Kinda makes the whole "review" bogus in my eyes.

The 9600 naming annoys the hell out of me and just undermines their whole numbering system. But yeah, it -really- would have been nice to see a 512MB 8800GT in there which is only £20 more expensive or so and is the other card people would likely be considering...
is it just me or is anyone else really comforted by the fact there's a mid-range graphics card called the "9600" around again? it's like the last five years never happened...
the 9600pro was a great wee card.
I only upgraded 6 months ago
oh yeah 9600 and 9800 were both great cards
i always wanted the 9800 pro but had the gfti4600 which weren't half bad!
