It's going to be hard to find the one bent pin amongst that lot.

yeah, going to be very fun trying to find the one or two bent pins. I wouldn't try to bend it back myself, too scared XD

I'd go to the jeweler and pay him/her to straighten things out.

Just thinking - that's a buttt ugly board. Needs Asus'/Abit's touch, tbh.

I can't wait to get my hands on the nehalem equipment and tweak the hell outta it

It looks like it's going to be a nice performing platform for all users. Now all we need to see is AMD's reply to the release of this and the market should start to liven up a bit.

Any guesses on how much these X58's will cost? I'm thinking of upgrading to a E8400 but I want one of these boards, but not if its like £300 a piece

I believe AMD's response will be bulldozer* - their first ground up redesign since the Athlon CPU, due out in 2009. However back then they were up against the PIII that was nothing more than a tweaked PII that was nothing more than a Pentium Pro with MMX. Nehalem is a complete redesign in itself thats in all likelyhood going to be around 40% faster than the Core2 CPU's that are also relative the the P4**, a complete redesign and appx 90% faster, clock for clock :wack:

I'm still hoping it will be either competetive or even significantly faster than Nehalem though

    * AMD have been claiming that bulldozer will be both the fastest single and multithreaded CPU in history when it is released. That said, they rekoned Barcelona was going to be mega fast as well.

** Core2 CPU's are a heavily modified version of the Mobile Core CPU's that were a tweaked version of the Pentium M that was more or less a Pentium 3 with the Quad pumped FSB from a P4

diddo - There are some brilliant ideas - layouts out there that should become standard. Like sata ports on the edge turned 90 degrees. Internal USB ports should be like that too and would keep cables sticking out down to a min. Also why can't the first Pci-E 16 slot be at the bottom. This would mean my rig would look so cool in the middle - be nothing but space ( a tube or two maybe )

Agree with you that it would be good to have x16 slot at the bottom, but so that you got more space for other cards installed. I can think why it's NOT at the bottom though. Airflow. GPUs are hot components, and need adequate ventilation.

Would be good to have some internal USB ports - or headers - for things like remotes, so you don't have to have them outside.

    Good observations there.
