I don`t think this problem is as new as nVIDIA would like us to believe. Sat next to me is a laptop with a dead 6800go, If you read up on that card you`ll find that they generally don`t last much longer than one year. Again they seem to fail due to thermal problems (possibly affecting the graphics memory), symptons are obviously similar with corrupt displays, random lines & missing characters...........

My Quadro fx2500 in my m90 laptop went last night outside of warranty. It's last time I'll be buying a laptop GPU from NVidia considering it would cost about £300 to replace.

Re: Dell issues BIOS update for NVIDIA hardware problem

Ive got a XPS M1330. Its about 3 months old now, and already had to have a Dell technician come out and replace the mobo and graphics card.

Interestingly the bios revision originally was version A08, and after it was fixed they put A07 on? So technically back-tracking, hmmm . . . .

I've had my M1530 for around 4 months, i use it everyday all the time for various tasks including gaming and have never had any problems!

    (I updated anyway!)

Loki as it's a known fault they have to, by law replace the part. Even if it fails 6years after it was bought.

Personally I wouldn't touch the fix as the issue has nothing to do with software. It's a hardware issue. All the fix does is turn the fans on higher and for longer. You are simply protecting nVidia and dell from fixing a broken part.

My xps M1330 isn't getting this bios fix. If the hardware is faulty they can friggin well fix it.. not just make the broken bits last longer!

Hence why nVidia are being very careful and not actually admitting it's a known fault.

Except that it clearly is. There is a manufacturing defect in all of these chips. There is more than enough evidence to use against them if it required it.

Re: Dell issues BIOS update for NVIDIA hardware problem

With the recent warm weather it appears my M1330 is showing signs of the GPU failure, with corrupted images and white screen with colour lines. Time to call Dell Support

Don't say that, I just bought a refurbed M90 with the same card....which funnily enough had a knackered GFX card when I first got it....sent it back for a replacement and is OK....for now.

You might want to consider a Studio instead then. They have ATI Radeons in 'em

Or push the boat out (if you're a gamer/can afford to), and get a XPS M1730 (see my system) - which have 8800M GTX's
