Are they barb's I see on the top of the memory for attaching watercooling them to get them to even more crazy operational speeds.
3 of them in the pic, DDR3.... Obviously for Core i7, although they need to do something about the bad press already with no overvolting of RAM modules.

They are though aren't they? i.e. they are pretty much all as close as motherboard manufacturers can get.
granted you do sometimes get a gap between banks, but that was on DDR2 motherboards, all the photos of i7 boards have all 6 slots right next to each other.
Improved surface area for cooling (thinner fins/more fins in the same space?); screws probably indicate being able to remove the heatsinks if needed.
Different heatsink
3 instead of 2
DDR3 instead of DDR2
the DDR2 sticks are much bigger

Read more.Corsair has launched its tri-channel DDR3 DOMINATOR kits and they're somewhat different in design - but can you guess why?
just from looking at the photos, the new tri-dominator modules appear to have less chips under the heatsink? so they could be manufactured cheaper, and a cheaper price to the end user?
the ddr3s appear to be a matt graphiteish colour.. its not some "super heat dissipating paint " or something is it?
edit: im going to go with funkys "lugs for fans" suggestion actually... but how do we know there is only one answer?
