Yeah it is the smallest.

I'd happily buy one in place of the 520HX for most builds asuming it's still a seasonic underneath. It would have really helped with the PC I used the 450W VX in and the one I use the 520W HX.

Also, when you think how many PC's even use 300W it might be a great cheaper solution for people who want a modular PSU for convenience

Yes it will be the smallest.

And I guess the point is that some people do not want a 520W PSU to run their media centre but still want a modular PSU so lowering the output should increase efficiency in the lower power regions that most HTPCs operate in ~100W, the telling feature will be if it is 80+ certified as this will require it to have an efficiency above 80% at 20% load (90W). Also it will be cheaper (I would guess £55-60) so could be a good alternative for the midrange system that still wants a modular PSU.

im thinking more along the line of the enthusiast using a modular and then going for the biggest they can afford for e-peen status, wondering if it will sell well tbh

Course it will, just 'cause your system isn't mega power hungry doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to have everything nice and neat in there.

I've seen countless spec threads where people had opted out of the 450W VX just because it wasn't modular.

Well I think it will be a good seller as long as it is priced right and having just checked Scan it will need to be priced at £55 or less to sell as you can get an Enermax Modu82+ 425W for £57 and even then I would probably be tempted by the Enermax.

People who know (which I would hope enthusiasts would be) are becoming more aware to the fact that you don't need a monster PSU to power a single graphics card system and in these times of credit crunch maybe saving £10 on the PSU will be seen as a really good thing.

It would certainly interest me, as I don't have a need for power-hungry graphics cards, and that would be perfectly adequate to power anything I do, even with multiple drives.

But, as has been said, it needs to be priced right, and the internals need to be of Seasonic-type quality too. Otherwise .... well, the Enermax Webby mentioned is currently on my "buy this one" list.

Enthusiasts will need the majority of the cables included with their PSU anyway (I think I've got 2 PCIe power connectors and one line of molex connectors routed around the back of my motherboard tray, and even that powers fans).

You could argue that the lower-end PSUs offer more through being modular, as if you've just got a single HDD, an optical drive and a graphics card to power, there's plenty of cables you won't need, and usually in a smaller case.

Exactly, my TJ08 pc uses just the mobo power cables and 2 SATA powers.. that's it. So rather than stuff them away I'd love to have a modular PSU, I just didn't have the budget for the 520W at the time else I would have.

The price deffinatly needs to right and for that to happen the 450VX will need to go back down in price and HX take it's £50 slot. I got my VX for £42 I think.

I would say that I have made use of my modular cabling, I use 1x PCIe cable, 1x Molex cable (3x connectors) and 1x Sata Power cable (2x connectors) that means that I have in my funky Corsair cable bag, 1x PCIe Cable, 1x Sata Power cable (2x connectors) 2x Molex cables (1x 3x connector and 1 2x connector), 1x floppy powermolex extension (2x connectors) and 1x Molex Fan Only extension (2x connectors).

That is a fairly large number of cables that are not in my case because of the modular design

The price would have to be bang on, I would be tempted to go for the Enermax Modu82+ 425W if there was only a few quid in it. Would definitely have to be Seasonic built too.

Why can't everyone follow Silverstones footsteps and introduce something truly 100% modular like the ST60F and ST70F, for example. Please correct me if I'm wrong, would like to know other PSU manufacturers with 100% modular cabling.

The really is no need to have the 24 pin cable modular equally if you have an 8 pin (or 4+4 pin) that has no need to be modular. It does annoy me slightly that my modular Corsair HX520 has both an 8 pin and 4 pin cable fixed but its easy enough to hide 1 cable.

Agree with you on all counts, especially with the 24 pin and 8 pin (or 4+4 pin variety), those are essential (understatement?). Again like you said, it is annoying to have both the 8 pin and 4pin fixed as in the HX520W's case. So would probably be best to have the 4 pin and 8 pin modular. Here's to if only!
