News - Panasonic unveils world's first portable Blu-ray disc player

But is it a pointless introduction when bereft of a 1080p screen?

Re: News - Panasonic unveils world's first portable Blu-ray disc player

To me, it's kind of a pointless release because it's not much more than a netbook with a Blu-ray drive, but whatever floats your boat.
Well then at elast it is a netbook that can play a BluRay without stuttering, something that most netbooks can't do.

You could also look at it as a BluRay player that also happens to work when you are not at home. Far better value for money than most others.

(there was also an extra ',' at the end of that article)

The point of this is simple - its for people with blu-ray at home who are annoyed all the new blu-ray movies they got for christmas won't work on their (or their kids) portable DVD player.

Or at least, it will be when the price comes down.

Surely it's such a small screen size and resolution that it renders Blu-ray pointless? :S

Not as pointless as buying the BluRay version of a film to watch at home and the DVD version of the same film to watch on the train. Also means you can hook it to your friends TV and play the same Bluray title when you get to where you are going.

    Hardly seems pointless to me.

My thoughts exactly. Can't be much (if any) better than DVD.

Ahh, good point. Although it would still be nice if they gave it a 1080p resolution but I guess asking for that sort of dot pitch is asking too much.
