It will probably cost £300-£350 in the UK too. If so, why buy one of these when you could get an equivalent APC Smart-UPS for a similar amount of money instead? I thought the point of these OCZ UPSs were they were meant to be much cheaper than the competition?
Really? APC lists their Smart-UPS 1500VA at £389.99.
Who in their right mind would purchase it directly from APC at the RRP? You would have to be mad to do so when there are plenty of other retailers/resellers that sell it cheaper than that. e.g. this place sells it for £293 (inc. VAT). Personally I would trust APC more than OCZ to make a decent UPS.
But it's PC Power & Cooling that are making it rather than OCZ themselves. We haven't even got a UK price for it but you're already assuming a high one when none of us really know and now you've introduced a mistrust of the product itself, is this the real reason behind the negative comment on the potential price?
Neither OCZ nor PC Power & Cooling have a proven track record in making UPSs, although the latter do make very good PSUs. To be honest, it's OCZ that I don't trust much. They have a habit of letting their customer's beta test their products. For example, why did they sell SSDs with that rubbish JMicron JMF602 controller when they must have known about the stuttering problem beforehand? Also, there have been several compatibility issues with the Vertex SSDs (as mentioned here).
Given the poor state of the £ (and the fact that manufacturer's love to rip us off over here) it's a given their UPS is going to be expensive when it's released in the UK. I'd be VERY surprised if it sells for £250. We'll have to wait and see.
