According to the BBC, all four defendents from the Pirate Bay torrent site have been convicted of copyright infringement. I am actually surprised by this. Anyone else?
I think they have said they would appeal if this was the verdict.
I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this. Sorry if I have.
Let's face it, whether or not it technically crossed the line of x, y or z law, they were running a high profile website which facilitated mass piracy. They were bound to caught somehow.

I agree with you, but I also share their view that just because you could use the service illegally, doesn't mean that the service itself is. I think one of their analagies was that you can break the speed limit law in your car, but that doesn't make owning or selling one illegal.

To be honest, i assume everyone does it these days but i dont! i dont know if that makes me the smaller part of the world that doesnt, it may sound silly but i belieave in paying for the things i want. not getting some cheeky program to in a sence of a word 'steal' music and films and what not from other people.
The more appropriate one is ISPs being guilty because their users were naughty.
In the end it's pointless fighting technology (which is what the media industry is doing) - it moves too fast and there's always a way around any obstruction they put up. Better to embrace it and try a new business model - it's working too, music sales online are doing very well..

This case had almost nothing to do with the site.
It was only on the four men and if they were 'assisting in making copyright content available’.
The Swedish government was pressured to make the arrests. It should have been handled in civil court but the RIAA/MPAA needed a criminal convict to get to the civil court.

But at the greater expense of offline sales.
The key to all the comparisons with cars etc. is probably what is considered the majority or more common use. The vast majority of people use cars legally. The vast majority of people use ISPs legally. I would hazard a guess that the majority of people were using TPB illegally.
I use torrents to download Linux distributions, game patches, game mods...
All are (or were) available via TPB.
offline sales have been in freefall for some time - years in fact. There's no way of correlating the two so precisely (and you know that as well as I) and is it so bad to see increase in revenue from a new stream in a positive light kalniel?

Holy crap. I was not expecting that. Fact of the matter is 'bay is just a customized Google. If you know what to input Google makes a great torrent search engine too.
I'm actually the same and have never downloaded any copyright material. Having said that, I have lent/borrowed the odd music CD off mates for ripping in the past.I still spend the same amount on new music though.
