    If all of that is true, the €1bn fine seems justified.

    One of the factors that limit the effectiveness of big fines is that the interest on the sum alone is enough to employ an army of lawyers to drag the appeals process out almost indefinitely.
    Like hell Intel are gonna pay up......

    I think this will drag on and on. They may eventually pay but I bet they will settle on a much lower figure.

    I'm not sure if this will actually help AMD now even though they originally raised the issue. It would have made a massive difference a few years ago when AMD had clearly superior products but as things stand now they are forced to compete on price in the low to mid range in the consumer market. It may help a little and of course there are other products that are more profitable such as Server computing and GPU to a certain extent.
