It's probably because so many seem to be buying into SSD as it seems to be pushing advances really fast

Prices are still too high for the majority of consumers. It'd be worth investing in a small good Samsung one if I could see my 150GB Raptor
Yes, the inidilinx controller doesn't have the stutter problem - that was the jmicron controller used on the "Solid" series, "core" series and (in raid) in the Apex series.
