View 1
View 2It's a box - it could be plain white for all it matters - who cares? The important bit is the content, and how it performs and that has had plenty of publicity - MS don't need eye catching eye candy to sell it - an OS isn't exactly an impulse buy!
Yes, really disapponting, I buy the box to put on a shelf so everyone can see that I'm at the forefront of technology - even though I only bought it on impulse because it caught my eye in PC World.
So take your pick - I tend to view 1 - but some people will buy it on impulse because they have been exposed to an eye catching box
Personally I think it looks fine although box design wouldn't influence me on little bit on whether to purchase it or not (I'd probably go OEM anyway)
What sort of bells and whistles would you expect - a button that plays the Microsoft sound-of-the-moment when it is pressed? Built in snow storm scene?

I would rather order it online and download a .iso file.
i dont need fancy packaging. all i need is the software itself and the key code. I have blank dvds so let me use em.
looks good enough to me, i dont think theres any need for it too be fancy
Looks quite nice. I did quite like the elaborate cases they use for Vista and Office 2007, but I can imagine these newer ones are far cheaper and lighter so it makes sense to change them. It's not like anyone will really mind anyway.
I'll be getting w7 on our SA aggreement so I really dont care what the packaging looks like, if we were all bothered about what the box looks like wouldnt we all be using Mac's?

I prefer the ISO, but it's always nice to have something solid and physical in your hands.

I quite like having the Vista and Office 2007 boxes adorning my shelf! That said, I've only got the retail versions because they were the cheapest way of getting them at the time; if an OEM or download is cheaper, I'll take that without a second thought.
Personally I don't really care that much what the outer packaging looks like - tbh, once the OS is installed the box and CD gets stored in the loft.
What I'm more interested in than the box is the numbers on the price tag affixed to it! I'm pretty sure that Home Premium will be pretty aggressively priced when it finally lands at PC World (although I'll probably get my copy from Scan - better customer support), but I'm sure the 'better' versions will be an arm and a leg (and a kidney, 6 ft of intestine, etc)
