Other interesting additions: more energy efficient parts (900e and 700e each clocked at 2.4GHz), a second Phenom II X2 - the 545 clocked at 3GHz, and a new top-end X3 - the 740 clocked at 3GHz.
That's a lot of beans for ASRock to spill in one go...
I bought the Phenom2 x4 955 last week for £180 on Scan, now barely a week later I find out I should have held out a little longer for either a £20 saving or a faster cpu.
Gutted.
LOL very true
so when are we expected to see the 965 in the shops/online
OK, I blame the heat, old age, and typing in haste; 4GB it is.
Mind you, and probably for a different "nostalgia" thread, I do remember buying 4 * 1 MB sticks at £25 each many moons ago. That in the day when new a maths co-processor chip seemed a reasonable upgrade for a 486 SX at 25MHz.
The PII X4 965 will only be worthwhile depending on its o/c potential. From the other PII X4 reviews I have read, they all seem to max out at 3.8Ghz on air cooling. I would be really disappointed if it only o/c from stock 3.4Ghz to 3.8Ghz, not much of a boost in my opinion.
Damm, I just got my hands on a 955 for benching and now this. Looks like I am going to need to sell quick. I havn't even used it yet because I'm waiting for the Crosshair 3 to come out so that I can do some serious damage. On the other hand, I am very much more interested in the AMD "TWKR" than this for overclocking.
I am glad AMD has finally started to make products worthy of high end PC's!
by the time Lynnfield arrives we should be able to get a 955 for around £140.
following my rule of always spending twice as much on the GPU as the CPU, that should get me an ATI 5000 series DX11 chip.
the only parts missing from this holy-trinity is an 8xx series motherboard and 4GB dimms, which will hopefully show up in a similar timeframe.
together they will make a very powerful £800 gaming box.
