They are either expanding ot or they are not. And it turns out they are.

So was the previous 40% coverage actually exactly 40%, or if you have the hard numbers, was it perhaps something closer to 38%? so really they are doubling that and just rounde dup the previous figures.

All this is subject to change, is based on estimation and isn't exact.

Sorry if this sounds really harsh, but I get really fed up of the media intentionally spinning what should be good news into another attack on whoever they take a dislike to.

This 'article' should have been more along the lines of "this is awesome next gen broadband is being extended!!" rather than "BT are trying to pull the wool over your eyes! aren't they evil!!!!"

Hi Funkstar, I'm actually pretty indifferent about BT and the goodies are all there in the 'article' too.

The irony is that it was BT's intentional spinning that I was gently mocking in the piece and my disapproval of sensational headlines was toungue in cheek.

Got to agree with Funkstar here, BT release a little good news with a modicum of rounding and then get slammed for doing so.

Personally I think for a company struggling under the burden of it's pension scheme and succesive slap downs from the UK Governement when it proposes something good for the country but wanting to recoup it's capital outlay in the quickest time possible, that BT has offered the UK a pretty good effort in terms of the spread of broadband.

And I'm sure even Hexus has used a bit of spin in it's past, hasn't any company trying to make some cash

I suspect what we have here is a bunch of Journo's who failed GCSE Geography. Population density drops of rapidly as you get outside of city and town centres therfore a doubling of the footprint ( the area covered by the service) would never be able to double availability unless the footprint now covered the entire country which of course it doesn't. Each time they double the footprint they will get a progressivley smaller increase in the affected homes and businesses. Sorry those who live in rural and remote areas but you are probably going to have to wait a long time.

I hate to defend BT and I get my broadband elsewhere anyway but people need to get their facts straight.

Seem to be some BT employees replying. "[GSV]Myocardial" The Government is the final underwriter of the BT pension liabilities - BT is rather unique in this. So your pension is safe.

The power companies are introducing a new charging tariff: £50 per month fixed price regardless. Those at the top of each street can use as much as they want; those at the end of the street, well there's only a dribble left for you I'm afraid - gas pressure and loss off, I'm afraid. Stop moaning about your bad luck - potentially you can have all the gas you want for £50. Sounds outright theft if it were ever to happen.

The ISP industry should put its house in order instead of playing heads I win tails you lose games - If one gets 8Mb then it's fair to pay for 8Mb. On the other hand if one gets 1Mb then that is all one should be charged for. The argument is not always about 2 copper wires. It's about the equipment in the exchange etc. Modern kit gives modern speeds. Charge for what is delivered and the investment might happen for all.
