    I'm with you on that. I'm also a bit skeptical as to the cost of "dual DOM" versus having a basic bootblock with TFTP or something.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    NAS = Expensive

    No two ways about it. Their industrial design has improved a lot, but I wonder if their performance and features have as well.

    All of those NAS devices seem a bit overpriced. Thecus, QNAP, Synology...all nice but all overpriced. I do like that Acer H340 but won't get it because it has Windows Home Server on it. Same as those HP MediaSmart NAS units, which are really nice and getting to be quite powerful but just stuck with WHS.

    Until WHS can do striping with parity then I'd rather not waste my time.

    Re: News - Atom and OLED in new Thecus 4-bay NAS

    At least with WHS you have a standard platform to do things with. It's a stripped down Server 2003 so can run just about anything any other Windows platform can. You don't need custom installers, modules, binaries, or anything like that. WHSs are usually a lot more powerful than other NAS boxes, letting you do on the fly media transcoding for example.

    The way WHS manages your data is more robust than separate drives, and of course no RAID is a substitute for backups

    I use WHS and its pretty good to be honest, I have had propper NAS before and FreeNAS but none of them are a patch on WHS.
