Still good value IMHO, especially compared to Sky where you have to pay AND you get adverts.

It is good value but it depends entirely on what you watch, luckily i enjoyed most of the programs bar songs of praise and most soaps so apart from them i watch it regulary.
However this increase seems a bit off and makes it worse considering they just cut a portion of the services provided and yet the price is going up. Thats like taking the radio out of your car and charging you £50 extra in total for it (kinda similar).
But the thing is we cant question this or even debate it with effect simply because its up to the politicians and we all know they couldnt give a rats ass about the public unless its for votes.

Perhaps, if you consider just the TV options, but when you throw in the radio and web services too I'd say there's a considerable choice/variety for your TV licence buck.
OTOH, I can sympathise with disgruntlement at having to pay the licence fee if you never watch/listen/read any of the BBC output.

Any person who argues against the license fee needs to spend a week watching mainstream TV in the US or any country in continental Europe.
7 days trawling through hour after hour of absolute tripe would convince them that the license fee is worth it for BBC1 and BBC2 alone.
Unfortunately, if you are the type of person who thinks Loose Women, Jeremy Kyle etc etc is "brilliant" then perhaps you'll disagree. Arguing against the TV license is effectively saying you want the quality of your viewing to deteriorate dramatically for the sake of savng the cost of a delivery pizza each month.

I have to disagree, the difference would be there is adverts here and there but the programs would remain the same.
Meanwhile the other channels have to come up with good quality TV so you will watch it and therefore see the adverts.
Much like if I don't want to pay for Sky I don't have to, if I don't want to pay for the BBC I have no choice.
They should make it optional and then watch how many opt out, I certainly would
Quality of programming is directly related to your revenue stream. Fail to secure sufficient advertising revenue per 3min slot and suddenly your margins look increasingly slim.
So what do you do? Cut quality or increase advertising? The public demands you keep quality high.
So you switch your advert breaks from every 15mins, to every 12mins and then every 10. Pretty soon your forced to run Advert break > Opening credits > break > 8mins of show > break > 8 mins of show > break > 8 mins of show > break > closing credits > break.
Think that's an extreme prediction? Head over to the US.

As we are now on digital Tv they could block the BBC services and you have to buy the BBC card to view.
I don't see why I should have to get rid of my TV because I don't want some of the channels.
Yes it is very much subjective, but ITV has many excellent dramas and soaps if you want them.
I see the whole agruement of funding makes quality, but my arguement is quality would make funding. As much as I hate corrie how much is the 3 minute advert break worth in that? I am sure an advert break in eastenders would generate a similar sum.
Basically you can't say that advertising doesn't work as all the other channels get by and there is just as much quality programming elsewhere paid for by advertising.
I wouldn't mind if it was a fund all channels got there hands on, that way they could mostly fund themselves but still have a top-up to boost quality.
Of course quality is very subjective, ITV will show something which will get a lot of views and therefore fund itsself, if we agree or disagree on the quality of the program means nothing, they are broadcasting what the people want.
I'd be happier paying the TV license if I got to pick what I got, ad free, from it. But of course, I know that such a thing would come from some commercial service and I don't have a hope in hell of getting the same value for money as I do now. Imagine if sky gave you an "ad free" option, it'd cost a flippin' fortune.
So, on balance, I'll live with the price hike, so long as my interests remain represented in their content.
