Re: News - Call of Duty: Black Ops - More details revealed

The SR-71 Blackbird will replace the AC-130.
What idiot came up with that idea? I mean it's clear CoD doesn't take accuracy or realism remotely seriously but couldn't they at least make an effort to make themselves not look like complete idiots to people who know their weapons/vehicles/etc? Stupid things like that really kill any feelings of immersion in a game. But it's unlikely I'll be buying this after the MW2 monstrosity unless it's exceptionally good, but I'm guessing it will just be CoD4 map pack 4 for the low, low cost of £45...

Was there a better alternative available around the cold war era? I don't know the slightest thing when it comes to planes or owt like that.

My point is the Blackbird isn't an alternative, it's a high-supersonic, high altitude reconnaissance plane NOT a gunship - there's a slight difference. It's like saying a Ferarri F430 is a good alternative to a Challenger 2 on the battlefield...

Re: News - Call of Duty: Black Ops - More details revealed

They never said it would be a gunship though, maybe it's going to be a really dull picture taking round - sort of like Pokemon Snap...

    http://www.codutility.com/index.php?...thread_id=1659

"Of course as you'd have seen in the debut trailer Black Ops also features pilotable vehicles, including the SR-71 Blackbird (which has you guiding troops on the ground past guard patrols - a bit like Modern Warfare's own air missions) and the helicopter, which OXM stresses is fully controllable - you even have helicopter-on-helicopter gun fights."

    On the other hand:

"You play as a member of the Studies and Operations Group (SOG), a pocket of CIA-sanctioned forces whose methods are unconventional and actions deniable."

Yawn. Bring back the SAS already.

Ah right I thought they were planning on using it as a direct replacement for the Ac-130 i.e. gunship role.

One of the predominate reasons why I really enjoyed the MW series. It's a delight to be able to play a war based game without having your excruciatingly stereotyped set of American troops.

Lets hope the new call of duty black ops will not be so laggy when playing online. Modern Warefare 2 was a such a pain to play.

“I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don’t see any reason not to see them unless… well, I just don’t see any reason not to,” studio head Mark Lamia told PC Zone.
Seems that dedi's will be included

Re: News - Call of Duty: Black Ops - More details revealed

We still live in hope of a lower RRP and a longer campaign though, just got to wait and see what happens now.
Hear-hear! I'm a big CoD fan, but MW2 was poor value-for-money unless you used the campaign as a training mode for online and then never used it again. I blame Activision for the cost, but IW for getting too wrapped up in the idea of "interactive cinema" and forgot that a script is a big part of a film!

The SR-71 Blackbird will replace the AC-130
Oh, I can just see that: "Hit that target" "What target? You mean that one that's now five miles behind us?!. Presumably they're not foisting an SR-71A on us? (Attack aircraft) Instead I'm guessing it's safe bet to assume we're getting a "snap the bad guys" mini-game. I really liked the old Spectre in MW1 - any chance of dropping the "warp speed Kodak" and getting a DC3 gunship instead Treyarch?

On the the other hand - to restate the content of a Tweet I saw - the replacement of SAS with the generic "GI Joes" mean that it's less morally troubling to bring down an artillery barrage close to friendlies

I'll probably still be buying it - although I think it'll be the normal edition, rather than any "special". But then again I thought W@W was really quite good - certainly better to campaign play than MW2.

I wonder if the UH-1 will have a part in Black Ops? It's pretty much the first vehicle I think of when I think of the Vietnam war.
