How could this air steering be better than having a wheel, especially one with force feedback/pedals? I just don't get it. Impressive technology, but pointless IMHO.

Not everybody has the space for a proper wheel, or wants to pay for one. Kinect will hopefully allow trackir type view control for more serious racers, or air steering for the pickup and play brigade. I havent seen anbody claim kinect will be the only way to control a a racing game. Consiering that trackir is about £120, kinect looks like it being a resonable price.

But people have money for a kinet costing £150? And the space to flap their arms around?

    Yes to both.

If I turned up at home with a steering wheel and pedals, wife would go mental. Wheres that going to live (good question), etc.

Turn up at home with a thing that sits under the tv, no problems.

Unlike the wheel kinect can be presented with the purpose of "including" wife in the game playing experience, and she might even find stuff she likes (unlikely). Kinect will work with lots of game types, and will appeal to casual gamers, especially when it gets shove ina bundle.

probably some daft xbox360 developers thing with microsoft asking all developers to incorporate some features into future game development, to help this technology take off the xbox platform

guess this will prove your wrong in saying people will prefer to use natal tan a steering wheel http://gaming.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=25124

Dont tell me people are willing to stand flapping their arms about in a racing game instead of using a steering wheel!

Err no, it hasnt been released yet, neither have the games. I beleive its not going to be in the shops until November. Kinects best feature for racers is head treacking, a bit like trackir.
