What's the point of comparing 4 bay NAS to 7 bay with Core2Duo CPU and 4GB of RAM?
Nevertheless this unit struggles a bit... £510 can be spend easily on self-build machine.

The point is to give you some idea of comparative performance.

I am looking to buy a 4 bay NAS to run as RAID 5 for home (I am paranoid about losing date particularly phots)
I have a simple question. In terms of HD playback what sort of speed should I be looking for say to handle 2 members of family both playing an HD video stored on the NAS?
I have a DS207 (2 bay) and it streams 1080p with ease. It's a few years old now so you should be fine with most new NAS devices so long as they aren't dirt cheap!
