That's hardly something new, I'm sure it's been in the wish list since people found out the original iPhone didn't have flash support. It's ok, it's not like a good majority of websites use flash, oh wait....
Mr Jobs man up and face it, Flash is the tech of today. HTML5 or Googles standard is tech of tomorrow. Your customers live in the world of today so get with the program give me damn flash on my iPhone!
how is it ahead of android... like at all? Its behind if anything, the only people who would say its behind are people who ether haven't used it properly or got scared by the fact it wasnt designed for complete special cases and ran away with their head in a chromed bucket with an apple sticker on the side of it.
Well after the whole 'we like to please our customers' speech in the antennae gate conference lets see which parts he actually grabs on to and does.
Ah come seriously while I know Android is good, at this time its not a mass comsumer product without stitching on a better UI on to its front. Not all people including me want a phone that I have to or need to pick apart at the seems in every day use.
I have enough of picking apart PCs and IT in general at work, I just want a phone that I can enjoy and not worry about crap like playing flash or if I can upgrade my android phone with out breaking the HTC shiny UI that was on it.
I firmly sit on the fence in regards to Apple vs Google vs Microsoft, at this time Apple has for me more appeal. On hardware alone its far more sleak, still not seen a Android or MS phone that appeals like my 3GS or even the 4 with its signal fubar.
Android is nice if I want to fiddle with it, but its still not at Apples ease of use for the mass market. When it is then I will consider it along with the hardware at the time. Im also looking forward to what MS brings to the table, its looking sleak. Just needs a good hardware design, im just a bit worried with it being even more simplistic than iOS4. But then again these aspects sell these phones and thats what keeps this game rolling.
its easy to not worry about doing something when you cant do it at all.
Android can be easy or it can be complicated... it depends how you want to use it or how much you want to get out of it. Me - i haven't done anything complicated or difficult and it does everything an iPhone does and more. I could "pick it apart at the seams" like so many others on these forums and get even more out of it but the only way i have seen an iPhone come close to the basic functionality of android is by jail breaking it, even then it starts to become hindered by its lack of RAM and raw processor grunt.
So what if people have stuck a UI on top of it, doesn't need it but HTC sense works damned well. I have upgraded it when HTC released their version and i didnt break anything either. yeah i had to wait longer than the Nexus one peeps did but it was perfectly fine before that anyway... maybe you dont quite understand the term "open source"?
As for sleak - i would hardy class a subjective point as a reason for saying its "behind".
Ease of use for mass market is kinda the point im getting at, the only problem is Apple make things easier by cutting things out - as clearly shown by this survey that isn't what the mass market really wants. When they start making things work by working with the market and the people who use it maybe i will agree but all i have seen apple do over the past few years is tell the market what it should want.
Apple hardware is mostly behind and the only way you get close to up to date is buy paying for it through your teeth, Apple I OS is playing a constant game of catch up with ALL of the other phone OS systems in features. The ONLY thing it has going is the fact it is simple to use for everyone and their retarded pet goldfish.
You're very derisive about people who would rather have a phone that's easy to use than one which has a wider range of features. Valuing usability doesn't make you retarded. You are spectacularly missing the point. Many people would rather have a phone with a nice UI than one they can SSH into or use as a mobile hotspot. The popularity of the iPhone is testimony to that. And don't come back with some codswallop about marketing being the only reason why people buy iPhones. Give people some credit. Most folk buying a £500 phone can think for themselves.
Utter rubbish. The ip4 has as much RAM as any Android phone, and a similar level of CPU power.even then it starts to become hindered by its lack of RAM and raw processor grunt.
It still has developer supports (for all the complaints) and a lead in applications that I find useful.
For £169, I got a fine tool that still does everything from a phone while I am in the UK country, albeit slowly. £500+ over the course of a year is not the type of sum I would like to spend just for the performance boost, and the possibility to roam in Japan, so I would more than welcome an Android alternative provided that I do not lose any functionality provided by the software that I need. It's moot point to say that anything that can be done on an iPhone can be done on Android too if it isn't there. At this point, it comes down to how much am I willing to pay for the extra-functionality vs how long am I willing to wait till an equal alternative is released on Android (and yes, I do routinely ask friends to check that for me) vs how much longer am I willing to hold onto my current phone. Those are all entirely subjective.
On the same note though, if Flash was an important to me, in the same way that the application I need on the iPhone is crucial to me, then I would most likely opt for an Android phone. Basic functionality (call/texts) aside, running what I need/want to run is high in my decision making tree.
How is the marketing argument codswapllop? Look at Nvidia vs AMD, the main reason Nvidia keeps so far ahead is marketing. Admittedly AMD now has the lead but now that the GTX4** is getting some motion i dont see that lasting.
Android isnt even difficult to use though, its barey more complicated than IOS and the only thing which makes it complcated is the fact that it has more features so there is more to look at. My friends who all jumped on the iPhone bandwagon (which is pretty much all i see it as) tried my phone and said "it looks nice... er yeah it feels good... but its not an iphone is it" what does that tell you about thinking for yourself?
When was the ip4 released? and was that playing catch up? yes i think it was. The phones previous to it struggle with the updated OS from what i have seen. And i dont see the iPhone4 as a real product till they properly fix the inherent flaw.
Whats wrong with android dev sup? Im aso curious as to what software the iphone has thats so important and isnt on android as all i have come across without pheasable alternatives is daft little games
2/3rds of iPad owners want flash...well we suspected that at least 2/3rds of iPad owners are total idiots, and now we know that to be true!
Why anyone would want flash on their phone is beyond me..isn't a moving advert-free internet a good thing? Isn't not overloading and overheating our devices a good thing? Isn't not opening up yet more security flaws a good thing?
Flash is great when used properly. The problem is that its not used properly 99.999% of the time. I hope that apple stick by their guns..the worrying thing is, that if they allow it on, sure it will be optional..but what happens when some of the best applications/features/etc get made in flash? Inevitably there will be a few good uses where people don't want to learn O-C or HTML5, and the odd flash developer can develop well.
We shall see anyway, I have a feeling it may happen one day though
Biscuit - can I ask what, aside from Flash and the number of configuration options, does android have that the iOS 4 doesn't, without rooting/jailbreaking either device?
I can't think of anything really, having used both platforms (mine is the iP4 - my GF has a droid). Actually I lie, I think you can "beam" files from a droid, and can get direct access to the file system (not 100% in the last one then) without an external app. But there are free apps for both of those on the iphone, and I last "beamed" a file over 5 years ago...on a PDA.
Both are great phones, I find the iPhone UI much nicer than the stock android one, although HTC Sense does even that out down to just personal preference rather than actual usability questions. As standard, pure stock (so no HTC addons at all for the droid, no apps for either) I don't think there is much that it's really missing. The rest comes down to how much you want to tinker/configure your phone - if you do that alot, then get a droid, no question. If you just want to use the phone..there is nothing wrong with going iphone 4. If you get a case with it hehe.

Actually sorry to correct you - but you're wrong ... The iP4 has equivalent RAM to most 'droid phones, but there are ones - like the Desire - that have more. Okay, in the case of the Desire it's only got 64MB more, but you did say "any Android phone". Oh, and as to the cpu specs - well you'd expect them to be the same, given that A4 and Snapdragon are based on the same ARM designs.
And while I'm off-topic here, I'll just echo something that Biscuit says ... you do NOT have to "root" a 'droid phone to be able to use it properly. Like him, I've not rooted mine, heck I've not even pressed that big scary option that allows the use of the non-GoogleMarketPlace app sources. No need to - I'm pretty happy with what's on my phone now - which is what it came with, plus a few choice selections from GMP (like Bejewelled).
I had a very bad experience with a couple of iPod Touches and Apple's "support" which definitely soured me on them as a company. Then the "god like" pronouncements from el Jobs completed my disillusionment. That said, I've got old iPod Nano (1st Gen) and Video (5th Gen) that I really like, I just don't intend to buy anything new from them. YMMV of course
As to the pointless Android v's iPhone4 debate, (and I'm not pointing the finger at anyone on this thread), I'm getting real tired of this. Sure there's stuff that the iP4 does (like multitap) that appeals to me. On the other hand for what I want an Android phone was a better option. So if you've got an iP4 and are happy with it, (because it suits you better), then fine, I'm pleased for you. Just don't trot the tired old "Ooo, the iPhone4 is just the greatest device ever invented, and you're a moron if you don't have one" - because that makes you look like a mindless drone. If you're going to try that, then back it up with some facts or shut the hell up!
Getting back on topic - seems like a reasonable iPad wish list on the whole. Although I'm guessing the desire for a CD/DVD drive and/or TV tuner is for those folks who want easier access to media, rather than having to stream it or transfer from PC/Mac. I would have thought an optical drive is very undesirable myself (noise, weight, bulk and battery hit) and a TV tuner would have issues with support (separate one for Europe, American, Japan, etc) - too many potential versions.
Settings-Wallpaper->choose from camera/photos/wallpapers...
That has been there since iOS4 was released
Ah lol ok was that was part of their last fan fare of things which should have been in there from day one. Like i said though its a constant game of catch up for them, they seem to be getting there but because of the way Apple do things they wont get ahead.
I guess i havent had enough experience with IOS4 to be able to make a full list of things which are missing... il pop down to the apple store soon.
