Location Sharing....
What is it good for?
Why do you have to let the world know where you are all the time.. Honestly people will be watching their friends go into public toilets and probably tweet that there friend is on the loo.
A company I used to work for used location sharing to keep an eye on the on the road sales staff to make sure they weren't sleeping on the job. Staff hated this idea, as its a massive intrusion, no different to having a CCTV camera on your back all the time.
BIG BROTHER culture seems to be catching on, and turning into a fun hobby now for everyone.
On the subject of google maps though, when are google going to release a mobile version in the UK that does not require a data conntection.
This would be nice - not because I'm worried about data costs, but because sometimes there just isn't signal. What would alse be nice in the interim would be for Google Maps to download the maps for your journey once you enter it in, as there are often signal blackspots on cross-country routes where all of a sudden you're left with a blue line and a dot telling you where you are in relation to the line - it would just be nice to have that detail preloaded once it knows where you're heading.
Not the world perhaps, but it is handy letting some people know where you are.
Here's an example: I live in Aberdeen, my better half in Edinburgh. If she had a decent phone (has a Nokia MusicPhone atm) I would have her set up with Google Maps as well so she could see how where I was on the journey down to see her. Would save me phoning or texting every so often to keep her up to date.
It would be really good if Latitude was more configurable, so at certain times you could limit who can see your location, or perhaps approximate it for some and leave it accurate for others.
