Are Nvidia on a suicide mission.

Stage 1, make overpriced power hungry cards after the competition has had better cards out for a while.

Stage 2, alienate all parteners and lose one of your best to the competition.

Stage 3, Update drivers so all fermi's actually burst into flames?

Re: News - EVGA responds to NVIDIA selling own-brand cards

I suppose Joe must be talking about US customer service, where EVGA is quite excellent.

Unfortunately for those of us living outside the states things are a little different. If NVidia offer almost nil customer service then they'll be slightly up on EVGA, so well I suppose that'll help differentiate the products. I know W Tismer left earlier this year so maybe that will make a difference.

I can't believe NVidia's cavalier attitude. XFX may have started to supply AMD cards but 'punishing' XFX seems a little childish, a better way would have been to supply the cards but charge them a bit more making XFX bear the price increase in order to be able to sell competitively.
Not allowing them to supply NVidia cards ever seems to be extremely foolhardy. When the economy and people's pockets are doing so bad, reducing ways customers can obtain your products is a novel way to try to increase your business.

Re: News - EVGA responds to NVIDIA selling own-brand cards

@Tainted, I really doubt Nvidia would go about cutting out XFX for the sole purpose of punishing them, if it really did affect Nvidia in a big way then it would be cutting of your nose to spite your face as the saying goes which is bad for business.

Nvidia have a number of active AIBs, most likely they will welcome less competition for chip supply.

Either way, it is HardOCP "reporting" such event, XFX could have produced a few models of Fermi based cards and decided they just run too hot and opted out for that series for the time being.
GTX460 seems to be the exception since its running on a different core, along with the variants, as such this has been found

XFX not making the cards because they ran too hot, I never actually thought of that. Just figured that they'd been cut out as Pete says in the article.
Having been denied access to the Fermi-based GPUs
You may well be right, it's brings another theory to the table. Will be interesting to watch what happens in the near future especially.
