Fermi was out in 2010? Thats one year behind already. 40nm to 28nm is quite a big jump =70%. Previously it was 55 to 40 again 73%. Virtually the same but luckily it seems like a bit more is needed than a die shrink these days to outdo the comp.

AMD are ready on 28nm - they left 32nm 6 months earlier than TSMC , and have sampled allready; my guess is Q1

Wo wo wo so now we are going to have a Radeon 7000 range next year? So why bother with a 6000 if its about half a year for the next gen.

Seriously thinking about holding onto my 4870x2 until then.

Thats what I mean "its all happening so fast", I'm running 2x 5870 xfire and I'm one of those people that always want the latest tech so I was thinking to sell them and get a pair of 6970s or a 6990 (call me crazy) but if the newer models are just around the corner then whats the point lol.

Keeping up with the latest tech is too expensive.

Because the 6xxx aren't the next gen, and never have been. The current 6xxx as you know it were a redundancy plan if the move to a smaller node didn't go as planned, which it didn't.

His point still stands though, if it's only half a year until the next gen.

What is likely to be the case is, AMD make a pipecleaner chip like they did with the 4770 at 40nm. If nVidia is doing something similar then it seems they've finally learned the best way. Both of them should be pretty small and cheap, with 6850/460 performance.

I'd still say it will be a year before the "true" next gen cards are ready.
