That's a bit of a disappointment... Not really "Light Peak" now is it?!

    How about "Copper Bottom" ?

Well, it is something new, because Light Peak is about more than just the speed. The magic is that it's protocol agnostic, so you can send your Ethernet, USB, and DisplayPort signals down a single wire, and just have it break out into the different connectors at the other end.

In theory, it could completely change how we - and by we, I mean component manufacturer's - build the insides of computers, with all of the signals being taken by this one wire.

"Copper Bottoming" was quite the advance in shipping, made them much more streamlined (thanks to lack of weeds and hull deterioration) and thus faster ;-)

similar case as fibre channel which was originally used on copper. The fact that it has fibre/light in the name doesnt really mean a great deal as the name is more about defining the rules for the protocols etc... right?

They may also be thinking that they can further down the line sell you optical version and make
    more money.
