You're getting confused.

775 was for both the high end and the mainstream.
1366 came in to replace the high end
1156 then replaced 775 in the mainstream
Two years later, 1155 comes in to replace 1156 in the mainstream
Now 2011 is coming in Q3 to replace 1366 in the high end.

What was one chipset for two market segments is now one for each.

So many processors but I think the extreme range is out of my price range. I find intels' motherboard platforms the most annoying; it gets really confusing.

Only a very small one, at CPU limiting situations.
