I still think 'thunderbolt' is an idiotic marketing name. Light peak was way better. Although I can understand them not going with light peak, since it was the code name, and they decided to go with an electrical carrier, instead. They could have come up with better.

Everytime I read "thunderbolt", Queen Bohemian Rhapsody pops into my head which is getting rather annoying.

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the fandango?
Thunderbolts and lightning - very very frightening me

No USB3 though there will probably be a thunderbolt -> usb3 convertor soon.

Are thunderbolt HDDs / RAID NAS available yet?

I have to admit I hope thunderbolt wins and usb3 fails, as I really dislike the USB3 connector, its going to fool so many people, giving the impression its the same old USB when in fact it is not its a completely different connection, with a compability connectors which confuse and drive up cost.

Thunderbolt is a propriety Intel only technology:

    http://www.itproportal.com/2011/02/2...l-thunderbolt/

    From the article:

"Similarly, Intel doesn't seem to have any plans to create an industry consortium like PCI-SIG or the USB Implementers Forum to promote the technology globally; as expected, Thunderbolt will support DRM from the onset as it is supports DisplayPort which is HDCP-compliant."

This means it will use it as leverage against its competitors especially since it has a large percentage of the market. You only have to see what happened to Nvidia.
