If i only had a ps3 i would have probably traded mine in for a 360 or possibly build a pc gaming rig instead.
Imagine if this hacking issue happened during peak season(September-nov). Sony would have been totaly screwed
This has seriously damaged Sony's credability. I was in a store yesterday and there was loads of PS3's that had been traded in and only 1 Xbox Slim (that we bought). The guy said he can't give away PS3's because of these issues and that the xbox was getting ALL the people who have given up on Sony's network
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
What exactly is it taking Sony so long to reboot their system? Don't they even know how the hackers got in, so until they work it out the service stays dark?
Credibility of the service virtually 0, people are really going to hesitate before supplying them with details now.
Hopefully this reduce the price of a preowned??? I don't use my xbox online (I can do that for free on the PC) and I'd love one for replacing a DVD player thats on the blink (iplayer+bluray+wifi for <£150 would make me )
They are having to re write PSN from the ground - thats why its taking so long , you cant just wave a magic wand and get a secure system `on the cheap` - thats what happened last time , and they have to make sure it wont happen again;
if it does - sony online will be finished
Why get an xbox get a PC for heaven's sake.

I think a major reason for a lot of people is the ease of use and the fact that PC gamers get shafted by a number of publishers *cough*Activision*cough*.
And some people, such as myself, refuse to buy any PC game including ridiculous DRM.
pfff, PC gaming is very easy to pick up and play once installed but lets not go their and turn this thread into a pc vs consoles though.
fact is, PSN has been down for a month now? People who rely on only a ps3 playing online games will jump ship mate.
Going without gaming fora few days or a week is fine but for 1+month? the hardcore gamers will be inpatient.
meh? im not bothered, i can wait a year for PSN to be back online. why? because i Game mainly on a PC which is free and more secure "Steam".
adios amigo's
So basically the PS3 has no decent single player games??
Sounds like all the COD addicts are jumping ship..no big loss there, hopefully all the hackers will go with them
Doesn't bother me that much - I still own my PS3 and an Xbox360, and still only ever touch the 360 for HDDVDs.
Sure its a little annoying that I can't play online games at the moment, but not the end of the world (I have a life, and a PC!), and sure as hell isn't worth me getting rid of the console for! Mad that people are willing to pay money (what, £50-£100 on top of the trade in, PLUS the monthly fee Microsoft charge to play online) because of a few weeks downtime.
Definitely won't be the death of the PS3, I think it will stay on top for a long while yet.
I had no intention of turning it into a PC vs Console war? I game on my PC about as much as I do on my 360, I just prefer online gaming on the 360 as it's what most of my friends use.
It is a simple fact that consoles are far simpler for most people, they 'just work' (from a usability standpoint I mean, but downtime can happen on PC servers too). It's very easy for someone who knows how to install and use PC games easily to say anyone can do it, when in fact many people find it very difficult - compatibility/HDD space/firewalls/antivirus/specs/DRM/etc are all problems, with a console you just put the disk in and off you go.
I don't deny that lots of games will switch platform, but the vast majority will go for another console.

I meant more in terms of units sold, but they actually look to be about even now around 50 million each worldwide. The PS3 is worth the premium though for the blu-ray player alone - it costs a minimum of £100 for a comparable one, which does offset the cost a fair chunk. Didn't want to turn this into a 360 vs ps3 war though, like I said I have both anyway..play whatever makes you happy!
