Perhaps Sony can have a version for under £1000?? I suspect that Apple will have a sub £1000 version of the MacBook Air powered by a Sandy Bridge CPU.
Pretty brave price point with the new Asus U36 around the corner, and the Asus UX21 in fall.
I'll sit this one out.
Want
I want but they've made it even more expensive than the MCPs! Guess I'll stick with my Dell with almost the same specs (i5 2310M, 6630M, 128GB M4 SSD, 8GB DDR3 RAM) for £423.40 Shame the screen and the design is so much nicer on the Vaio though!
Looks really cool, but costs alot man. I spec'd one out, to sort out what I could run with (although, with the smallest drive, and WITHOUT the external drive / GPU thingie) And it was over 2G's!
The Z series has always been amongst the most expensive laptop around, managing to fit a lot of power for it's size (which I consider to be a sweet spot for taking around and still be productive). Yet I wouldn't consider another one because, price aside, Sony laptops have gained notoriety in the fan failing or otherwise overheating just out of warranty (even within is still hassle). Sure this can happen with other brands too, but for the price, I expect higher QA.
Oh man, wait until TheAnimus gets here and starts going on about his Z whatever, its not gonna be TooNice anymore...

The media dock strikes me as a great innovation, and it's a shame there aren't more offerings available. Being able to have additional power for games and the like when at home, but still have a laptop you can take out and about seems another good step forward for the home PC market.
Not to mention, it raises the interesting possability of "upgrading" your work laptop to a games machine, without the risk of being tempted to play games during working hours due to a lack of spec.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Its a great concept, a 'convertable' laptop into a games machine. But it won't replace my older Z series, as a portable powerhouse.
Oh and on the fan issues, I've had 3 in the last 3 years, all going strong still today. Then again one of them is fanless so I guess shouldn't count!

Still, a quick Google would suggest that fan failure is the biggest issue plaguing VAIOs. I didn't realise it until after my SZ series (now discontinued, but used to be their flagship before the Z series - and yeah, it did cost top dollars) started playing up some 3 months after the 2 years warranty. I want to like them, but and the issues may be statistically insignificant, but it's given me an excuse to try out other manufacturers and save quite a bit of money in the process (seeing that Sony's premium laptops are amongst the most expensive). I'll see how well my recently purchased Dell XPS cope with my usage pattern, and if it's still not satisfactory, I may try out HP's Envy next (if they still make them then). Only after that will I give VAIO another look. Think it's fair

After working for SCEE where all the laptops where Z's, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, very well spec'ed just not robust enough for a corporate environment (and dont get me started on the bloatware that comes with them!)
