All you need to know - it's too much.
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
I knew the cost but pretended I was not bothered 2 weeks in Ibiza 2500 Euros later to come home to a nice phone bill so uploading photos on the beach to make my mates jealous does cost

How can people not at least have some inkling that it might not be included in their monthly tariff and therefore that it might just possibly be worth spending two-five minutes of their time to find out just how much it's going to cost?
Well, it's expensive to phone other countries, so why wouldn't it be expensive to use internet in other countries? Some basic logic could help a lot of people.
On another note, i still can't believe that operators don't tell customers how much data they have used. There are fines for going over the limit, but no way (except apps) of actually monitoring what you use.
Currently studying: Electronic Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton.
Last time I roamed (Holland) when I tried to access the i'net over my phone (on Three) it came up with a page warning that this was excluded from the tariff and - if memory serves me rightly - came up with a link to a page with the costs. You also had to "accept" that you'd read that warning before it'd let you on the net.
My SE X10 (on Three) had a link on the home screen to a web page that gives full statistics - text/minutes used etc - even tells you how much out-of-tariff expense you've incurred. All that without needing to be logged-in or anything like that (so I assume it's tracking the phone number somehow).
Unfortunately I lost that link when I replaced the official ROM, but the Three app on the Google Market Place - amongst other things - launches a web browser pointing at the same page.
Conversely, my daughter's phone had to have the T-Mobile app installed and that's not as good - for her to use it I'd have to give her the payment details etc. Not a good idea for a teenager imho!

My desire HD and the wifes Samsung Galaxy S both had data roaming turned off as a default. Not sure if this applies to all Android hand sets, but seems like a very good idea. You have to actually turn data roaming on to us it.
Also she is on Three and she gets a text message in other countries straight away about costs, including data. I'm on T-mobile and never bothered to activate my roaming, last thing I want on holiday is a phone call from work.
I got stung by this in a fairly recent trip to New York. I definitely would have appreciated a free page pop up and tell me what I can expect to be charged, i.e. what Crossy said about Three.
