I think Google's approach to going backwards and making things alot simpler is fantastic. World is way too complicated for it own good. Lets make things more simple and easier to use.....
Oh wow..that is HORRIBLE!
I just enabled the new theme, and really..words cannot describe. They have gone for this nasty idea of having white space everywhere to separate out the elements, kind of like what the BBC did when they decided to destroy their site design also.
I know it's the "In" thing at the moment but my instant reaction was to switch back to the classic mode, and is much prettier and easier to use.
Sorry google but whilst your homepage/search results changes are a resounding success, this gmail redesign is a catastrophic failure. I hope that the old themes remain available (I except that they will) so that we have a choice
changes like this will always polarise people I hear the same things about the BBC site, lots of people like the new design, but many (like me) think its horrible to look at and feels very unfinished..like something is missing.
If Google keep the "old" (current) design as an option, then its not a bad thing..just more choice.
Whilst I applaud Google for keeping things moving and constantly looking at their services, it has now go to the point where they have messed on so much their own Android platform is now so horribly behind their web services, it's actually making me question if I will stick with Android for my next phone or not and I have been with Android since the early days.
Their gmail for android is now so behind that it doesn't understand the priority mailbox and if you have the options turned off on the web service the mobile service doesn't understand it and it will mark all email as important or file it in the priority mailbox so when you go back on the web service you spend the first few minutes of your day sorting it out.
They offer the 2step security for your account; here is the other problem, android apps like gmail and gtalk, marketplace etc don't recognise it and you have to create password tokens for each of them to get the phone to sync to them, the calendar with the 2step verification barely works and other google services like blogger on android just don't work at all.
Personally I am getting fed up of google these days and I use everything under the sun from them. Before they go messing on with a look or a style, they need to focus on actually pulling the services they offer into line with one another and uniting their services as right now they are slowly breaking what I once loved about Android, account integration with services.

I'm not a fan of the new interface, although dense is better than regular! It looks like they should keep the old theme as an option though (they've got a couple of dozen other themes available, so wouldn't make sense to remove Classic as an option).
I like it
Its things like this that annoy google apps users, google just change things without warning.
