Not much has changed IMO. It's not like he's gone or anything.

Sad, though he needs to look after himself... Apple will survive! No way would I put my health before work.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree - hopefully the replacement they've got this time will do a better job than the last (pre-Jobs) incumbent. Didn't that joker nearly put them in the toilet (to use an americanism)?

Okay, I'm not impressed by the level of evilness incumbent at Apple these days, but I'd happily admit that SJ deserves the praise he's received, and hopefully he'll be able to bounce back from whatever is ailing him. I wish him well.

Speaking of evil, I wonder if a new CEO will result in a less Orwellian Apple? (not that I'm necessarily blaming Mr J for that). There's a horrible thought - suppose the change at the top makes them more evil?

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Re: News - Steve Jobs calls it a day

This is the third time he's had to stand down on health reasons so hopefully its not too bad this time around. People may not like Jobs but damn, the guy has had a rough time with cancer. As other have said though, without Jobs, Tim Cook will take over as he has done for the other times Jobs has had to walk away for treatment.

Apple will continue, they will just get a new front man for the Apple shows etc.

Not the biggest Apple fan but I wouldn't wish the guy dead or in ill health. Good on him for thinking of himself instead of the job.

Well apple didn't really have anything back then, they had the mac... though now they've got the Ios range of devices which have been carrying the company. They've got a idea of the type of company they want to be now; when he first left they didn't.

Re: News - Steve Jobs calls it a day

I reckon things could end up worse, litigation-wise. Not sure how much of a back seat Jobs has taken since his illness, but that seems to have been the start of this "Evil Empire - sue everyone" mentality...

I suppose if they can't replace his vision and direction in terms of product releases they might fall back on the thing they know second-best, but I hope not. This is probably the biggest test we'll ever see of whether one man makes a company or not - Apple needs to show investors that it's not just Jobs' henchman / plaything, and that it can function and innovate without his input.
