30 day warranty. Little bit scary. You'd think they'd have more confidence in the stock...
If it wasn't for the 30 day warranty, I'd have bought one already.
Still tempted by the 256GB one though.. would be a nice space boost over my 80GB X25-M
Certainly cheaper than they used to be but the price per GB isn't everything, it's common sense to look for performance not just the capacity. The read/write is not as good value by now. and limiting to 1 per person puts an end to any RAID setups...

its worth noting that these are synchronous nand as opposed to asynchronous there is quite a difference betweeen the two its explained here

This was brought up in another thread the other day.
After doing much reading, the difference between two equal drives other than the synchronous and Asynchronous NAND is an average 30% performance drop in worse case scenario for the synchronous drive. But considering the speeds these drive operate at (SATA 3), the drop in performance in these worse case scenarios is not noticeable for the average user. Its all numbers in charts and graphs, but for the average user there us unlikely to be any difference.
Also I think that the drives Crucial are offering used to come with 3 year warranty. These drives should still be under their original warranty....
I really think Crucial are trying to shift dodgy units.
In that review linked to, synchronous wins all the time - very significantly so, in places.
Plus, the Vertex is a more premium product than the Agility (and it was described that the vertex uses synchronous and the agility asynchronous).
You'll find though that is real world use you'll not notice the difference. Loading times of apps, games and windows is the same. Considering most use their SSD for these three purposes, most people will not care about these benchmark results.
Its kinda like comparing a RS focus against a standard focus on a race around a 30mph village. ;-)
thats pretty much it in a nutshell the higher end ssds use synchronous and cheaper one like agility and solid and so on use the slower ones.
Well, it's not like you're buying these of E-Bay, there coming straight from Crucial so you will be able to go straight back to them and there's no third party online shop getting in the way either. If there's some problem with a large number of them then they'll have to recall them. In addition you have a drive with updated and proven firmware, unlike some of the newer drives. I expect these are faulty drives with replaced chipsets or upgraded enterprise drives. It's likely that the NAND will have fewer write cycles left available than if bought new but we're not likely to wear these drives out before wanting to replace them anyway.
Crucial have always been pretty good to me in the past an at a £200 discount mine's in the post already!
You seem to missing the most important metric though. The drive with asynchronous NAND and a SandForce SF2281 controller showed very large performance drop-offs as TRIM was enabled and the drive was filled with data. Almost all reviews test SSDs with the drives empty or or in many cases with TRIM not even enabled. At the very least anyone is going to have their SSD 25% to 50% full.

Just ordered one based on the hope that if they do turn out to be a dodgy batch then the onus will be on Crucial to prove they weren't rather than the other way round
Gotta love EU law.. although I'm not sure how it works in the case of refurbs..but if it's the same as normal then as long as it's in the first year I'm fine even if no-one else's fails!

Nah hopefully will be fine. Now I just need to order that Acer 3830TG lappy so I have something to install this drive into
Would have got a smaller one but unless the lappy has mSATA, can't have a seperate HDD so this was too good an opportunity to get a large SSD on the cheap...
