Thank god for that! Windows live for game is a terrible terrible arrangement. I experienced it through Grand theft Auto and it has totally ruined the game for me, I have never seen such a clunky system in my life!

    Steam ftw

    Jumping from GFWL to Steamworks isn't uncommon - e.g. FO3 & FONV

Dawn of War II also ditched GFWL for steamworks for the Retribution expansion...

GFWL is fine when it works... if it works...

I had HALO 2 for Vista and to get GFWL to work is a nightmare, no their KB docs ain't enough! Had to do a lot of this and that before it worked!

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Another advantage you missed: Steam actually works...
G4WL is some of the worst software I've ever had this misfortune of using. I've been looking forward to this game but was still in two minds about it because of G4WL. Maybe game publishers are starting to get the message about crap DRM systems?

Not if it has 3 installs like AA.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

The retail version didn't have that limitation. At least not the standard version, not sure about GOTY.

I completely agree with what is said above, GFWL just seems horrible to me from the times I've used it, though it could just have been because I didn't see the point in it when the games that I have that implemented it, the acquisition method I used was Steam and I thought that it could have been handled through that instead.

Re: News - No GFWL for Batman: Arkham City, Steamworks rumoured

I've never liked being forced to install additional software, let alone bloated, buggy rubbish. But what did it for me was finding out the hard way that GFWL doesn't allow you to simply back up your game saves like you normally would, you know by copying the 'saves' folder for the game in Documents. No, you have to back up all kinds of files scattered all over the system in order to be able to use said save files again...

    Update:
Batman: Arkham City is a Games for Windows Live title, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed to Eurogamer.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Re: News - No GFWL for Batman: Arkham City, Steamworks rumoured

I'm not entirely sold on it being good news, the GFWL interface is inexplicably horrid and for MS to not do anything about it in the time they have had is inexcusable.

Still, steam has it's issues so it isn't all rosy IMO - I've never had a co-op game ended over GWFL but on steam it is a semi-regular occurrence thanks to "steam maintenance" and random steam disconnects that happen when your chatting to the other person(s) with Teamspeak, so you know neither connection has been interrupted.

As for the steam "cloud"......it's obviously very sunny at valve because the cloud has a habit of disappearing!

Shogun 2 MP saves can be corrupted very easily as well. It's probably the only steamworks game I have that stores large MP save files (up to 15mb each) and the 2 players savefiles come out of sync (I can only assume transactions are lost over steam).....

I do like steam for content delivery but the steamworks API has too many problems and could do with more competition to force some resilience changes.
