Re: News - Firefox 7 hits the airwaves

As long as they don't break the only extension that stops me from going FF free, I have no problems with the version number bonanza.

It is ofcourse the Ctrl+E fix!

Re: News - Firefox 7 hits the airwaves

I'm not really a fan of the frequent major version changes, as they are usually only small changes that would previously have been point releases. Especially when they are being released so closely together too.

Personally I'm just sick of updating firefox, just to be told "unfortunately, you're still not using the latest version"...

Re: News - Firefox 7 hits the airwaves

This lust for version numbers phenomena of late is just daft. Thunderbird tells me there is now a version 7 out. 6 didn't seem much different from 5 (or should it be 4?) so I'm guessing this is really TB5.2. Same goes for Firefox. We've had the version number system in place for years, and it has worked well. We do not need whole version number changes for incremental updates.

Just because Google's doing it, doesn't mean you have to too.

Why not? I'm used to it, it works for me, and it isn't IE.

Re: News - Firefox 7 hits the airwaves

I agree the numbering system is simply ridiculous now, but I'll be staying on 3.6 for as long as possible as I much prefer the interface. I also use Chrome (well SRWare Iron) but mainly as a compatibility browser if a known safe website isn't happy with NoScript for instance. However, I find it bogs down much more than FF with quite a few tabs open and is a real memory hog in such a scenario - probably due to having a separate instance for every tab but running in single threaded mode disables add-ons. I keep giving IE a chance but I'm yet to find a reason to use it over the alternatives.

    silly numbering, as above.

However if they have indeed fixed many of the memory/performance bugs, I'll be a very happy bunny.

Since my FF memory usage is currently sitting at 1,867,164K, according to Task Manager
