I can see your point CAT, but surely the mediocrity of the 4S would just make this an even bigger and better opportunity to rub Apple's noses in it? And if that's what Samsung and Google planned, then it's quite possible that they're holding off on the launch to rewrite the Apple-bashing speech that may have accompanied it...

And companies are often at pains to say their roadmap execution doesn't factor in what the competition releases.

Seems like bit of a minor lull in the super-smartphone market.

Or maybe they decided to double check that Tim Cook & legal team couldn't start writ flinging again, (every time I hear of the Apple legal team springing into action I think of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SESI19h4wDo). But, as you say, the pressure to do one-upmanship isn't there since most folks seem to think that the existing SGS2 is more than a match for the 4S. Maybe launching next month would garner them more "column inches" anyway, rather than being seen as a "me too" launch.

Given that the Nexus (/Nexi?) seem to stick with Vodafone I think I'll be giving the latest one a miss too.

Actually that seems a pretty reasonable thing to do - at least to my way of thinking. If they launch next month (for example) then they're sure to get more publicity (or a greater share of the available "column inches").

They'll use it to their advantage, make no mistake about that. Perhaps they consider it harsh to p*** all over Apple when Jobs has just died and that doing so can wait a couple of weeks or so.

this and the fact the Iphone 4s specs are not that impressive so Samsung not need to worry.
