This is the only pro i can give Apple, their iphone and now their ipad have a very high resolution screen. Im really confused why Samsung or LG havent even managed this themselves, or if they did why dont they use it on their devices? I cant believe Apple would be able to make a superior panel to LG or samsung, especially if its IPS then LG should be bringing out the bees knees of displays.

Wonder if toshiba will release their panel tech before this, would be epic if other companies had something BETTER in the resolution area this time.

I think it's a case of, Apple said produce! The moment the technology was ready and they're the paying customer. We will certainly see this in upcoming Samsung devices, though Samsung prefers the use of OLED as advancements in that area are leading to more contrast, better power efficiency, flexible and thinner screens and also greater density.

It's very much a game of leap-frog. Come Feb, the iPad 3 may well be top dog in terms of capability, come June, the game may have changed and someone else is on top.

Smells like more exploding apple screens...

Given the yields have been quite low it suggests the technology hasn't been fully harnessed in manufacturing, fairl likely the first breed with these new screens will have some teething problems. iPad 3S will be the thing to go for perhaps? For now i think i will stick with my plans of going for the prime.

I wonder how fast the GPU will have to be to keep up with the iPad 2??

So depressing that just as I'm thinking about getting an iPad 2, the iPad 3 rumours come out! Excited to see what they add to this one to be honest, seems like it could be the usual incremental upgrade with an improved screen, processor, gpu etc.

Well if that news stops you from buying the ipad 2 , then I've got some real bad news for you.. There will be an ipad 4 and 5 coming.... When? Dunno, but they will come.

Haha! You're not wrong there, the iPad 2 is a fantastic device anyway, the only thing really lacking for me is a HDMI output which we will probably never see anyway

Just buy an Apple HDMI adapter for £20 and you're sorted.

In the end, like any form of technology, you're gonna have to jump on the boat sometime otherwise you'll never buy something you want as there will always be something better coming out around the corner.

    Enjoy life while you're living!

Apple don't make their own screens heck they hardly make any of there own devices and usually its their own designs where all the problems are.

I am suspect there was multiple supplier tended because although samsung can do it, they might not want to do it because of all the lawsuits.

No LG is also a surprise as they've supplied all of there latest screens but have been pushing 3d over resolution.

I'll believe this screen specs when i actually see it, as I thought the A6 had slipped into mid next year at best ?

Sorry i really meant why havent Samsung/LG made their device with a res like this since they are the guys who made it, maybe they're scared Apple will claim patent violations .

The current iPads resolution is still quite good though, right? I've barely used one to be honest so can't say I really noticed.

Imagine the graphics cards needed to power games at the latter resolution??

This is starting to get like the megapixel race with cameras.

haha thats the thing though if it becomes the norm resolution then the gpu designers will need to get their act together and improve technology further . Go AMD and Nvidia you can do it .

True about MP race however i think its not there yet, having a PPI of over 200 is a good thing really... when it gets to 400+ its silly
