Last I heard was that they were doubling all speeds, including 50Mbps -> 100Mbps, and 100Mbps was the only exception as that was shifting to 120Mbps instead. So has that changed now?
Lucky for some, 1 km to the exchange from our house via a main road but 10 km of wiring the way it has been done. Lucky if we get 3Mb at the best of times.
Wish they would expand the network to those who have poor speeds instead of a peeing contest as to who can get the fastest speeds.
I experienced the blackout and could see that traffic being routed via one router at Leeds (I think) was going through fine while that going via another timed out at hop 6.
The one traceroute I remember doing, it made it to Manchester and timed out at the next.
you need to get facts straight before you post something hexus
the correct speeds will be the following
Broadband Size : S (up to 2Mb)
Up to 5Mb
Broadband Size : M (up to 10Mb)
Up to 20Mb
Broadband Size : L (up to 10Mb)
Up to 20Mb
Broadband Size : XL (up to 20Mb or 30Mb)
Up to 60Mb
Broadband Size : XXL (up to 50Mb)
Up to 100Mb
Broadband Size : 100 (up to 100Mb)
Up to 120Mb – Note these increases will start from summer 2012
only 100mb/s users will be upgraded to 120mb/s
“Following our announcement last week that we are doubling the broadband speeds our cable customers receive, we’ve started to write to let them know how it will work and what to expect.
Our first email, intended for our 100Mbps customers, was accidentally sent to some customers on other tiers which may have led to some confusion.
In the meantime, as part of our double speed programme we are delighted to confirm that 50Mbps customers will actually be upgraded to 120Mbps, meaning even more Virgin Media customers will be able to take advantage of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK.”

You can find this statement confirmed by a Virgin Media Forum Manager here:
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...958469/page/26
I got the "you're being upgraded to 120Mbps" email followed two days later by a "Ooops - no you're not. We goofed" correction. That's fine - 60Mbps (I'm on XL) is more than I'm going to want - my pre-upgrade speed (30Mbps) was fine.
Correction to you though - VM quoted my upgrade to take place "March - April" and there's a web page available where you can check when your postcode is going to get done. Edit: http://doublespeed.virginmedia.com/
As to the outage - I was online but didn't see any loss of service. From what was said in the article maybe I was just lucky.
I'm on 20mb and apparently I'm moving to 60mb, I also noticed my bill is lower this month as well.
tbh I'd rather stick with 20mb, get better upload speeds and pay less than pay the same for more of what I dont need..
the official statement is here
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...ds/td-p/958421
as stated 50 goes to 100mb/s the jump from 50mb/s to 120 mb/s is pure speculation from one forum admin and has no basis in fact or truth from virgin as an official annoucement
Actually I would have thought the official line is here http://mediacentre.virginmedia.com/S...eeds-2322.aspx and - to confirm what you said above - there it says:
So - with my "I hate BT" T-shirt on* - even if/when BT switch some folks to 300Mbps then VM will (theoretically) still be able to beat them by 100Mbps. That said, I'm not convinced that VM will double the upload speed because my download speed has doubled - nice if it did since it'd benefit my teleworking.Virgin Media’s 100Mb service is, and its 120Mb service is soon to be, the UK’s fastest widely available broadband.
The speed upgrades will mean the following changes:
10Mb increased to 20Mb
20Mb and 30Mb increased to 60Mb
50Mb increased to 100Mb
100Mb increased to 120Mb
Upstream speeds and traffic management fair usage amounts will be increased in proportion to the increase in downstream speed.
The modems provided as part of the upgrade programme are enhanced and capable of receiving speeds of up to 400Mb.
(* I don't actually hate BT - was a customer of theirs for years. Just not a big fan of the current pi**ing contest that they seemed to be in with VM. VM has the fastest, but surely BT can get their lower speed point to more people).
i think the upload speeds will be increasing as a result of this... virgins new policy is a 10:1 ratio for downloads/upload speeds unless thats changed so we should see new uploads of 12mb etc .
Hate to contradict you Lowe but the 50 will go to 100 and the 20/30 to 60 as some previous posters have stated (although the tone of one of those posters does leave something to be desired). It all goes to show just how easily mistakes can be made though, such as sending the 120meg email out instead of the doubling one.... or something like that lol
OK,
To clarify why official website statements still report otherwise, we've contacted Virgin Media directly and received the following informative response from the head of consumer media relations, Asam Ahmad:
Hopefully this clears things up and I can crawl away with some honour in-tactYes, we originally announced that 50Mb would be uplifted to 100Mb, however in additional good news we have now confirmed that we will also uplift 50Mb customers to 120Mb.
Due to the way the network upgrades and the new 120Mb tier will roll-out, customers will go to 100Mb first and then see a further uplift to 120Mb.
All at no extra cost of course.

Advertised on Metro today as well about this.
