I torrented 4 of the 5 PC games......even though I bought licenses for them. Just wanted to get the disk images before release date.

But I am sure everyone in the industry will count my downloads as lost revenue some how.

I thought there was some suggestion/plan for the video games folks to deliberately put "poisoned" images out there to dissuade folks from using these "illegal" methods.

That said, there's no way in hell that I'd torrent download a game image - too much risk (imho of course) that the nerf herder that put it there didn't slip all kinds of malware in as well. That said, I've quite happily torrented some Linux distros - but only because that was the projects preferred way to distribute them.

Thats why you use private trackers, and check the comments of the people that have downloaded them. Also if you have a decent anti-virus your fine, as it'll pick it up as soon as you start building the file.

i buw MW just for the MP part, i rarely ever play single player... just too cliche and done all before in 4/5 games.

Also, it may not be going down in pure terms - but in percentage of pirated software vs sales and for consoles, compared to the percentage of hardware out there surely it has gone down ?

...and in so doing broke the law by redistributing something which wasn't yours? Why would you want to get the disk images before the release date? Could be virus riddled, fake, or an unfinished product.

Be nice if there was a way to see how many of those downloaders went on to buy the actual game. I know a lot of people download the pirated copies to test out whether they want to buy a game. Also, many of them buy the game, which as DRM, and then download the pirated version without the DRM to keep their systems clean.

The publishers like to imagine that everyone of those downloads is a lost sale but that isn't even close to the case. They do it because it makes a good case for getting piracy stomped out.

tbh the list of pc games there and the numbers are not shocking at all, i downloaded bf3 before it was fully released but i also went out and bought the game legit, i always was going to.

all the games listed still earnt billions, not all downloads are from 'pirates'
