I hope they do release in april. Because I really don't want to keep waiting to upgrade . Hopefully will bring the AMD cards down in price too.

I thought about it but got a really good deal and happy with the overclock I should see from my sandybridge.

Ivy bridge isn't till June at the earliest, and there's not likely to be significant gains over Sandy Bridge for gaming.

Well, it sounds like IB in pre-built machines is June.....but retail boxes may be available April. When reading all the quotes available, that's exactly how it sounds to me.

And regardless of gains, if your hanging out for a new GPU and there is a new CPU releasing the same time, why buy the older tech now?

That's what I was thinking. This set up is well over what I need and for a great price so I didn't see the benefit in waiting!

I'm very happy with my current setup, it's extremely quick in everything it does, and should last me at least another 3-4 years, with GPU upgrades inbetween.

My Q6600 lasted me nearly 5 years, and even now, I could probably still be using it.

Your GTX580 must struggle quite a bit, even though it's a very powerful card, with that many pixels to render.

Sorry if this is taking it off topic a bit, but do we know whether the Xeon based Ivy Bridge processors will be released with the main desktop parts. I feel like they are a cheaper option to the Core i7, without the unnecessary onboard GPU (in sandy bridge atm).

Well, they have pulled IB from OEM machines in April. They may even pull the retail boxes (will have to wait and see).......so answering a question about the Xeon chips would be a pure shot in the dark

I would guess that most Xeons would be available around the same time as OEM shipments as most will find their way into pre-built servers (OEM).....but see above re "shot in the dark"
